Ciao Leo, Thank you for your absolutely useful tips. Besides my commentary videos i am a long time musican that never had occasion to going in-deep into recording techniques, and you are proving to be very Helpful. I thank you so much because you are clear and simple, and you made me curious to do recording myself of the songs i have still down on paper since long time. Grazie Leo - Brutal Frank

you can record through a stereo channel and it be the same as a mono source. What this means is the right is the same as the left. To make a true stereo the right needs to be different than the left. delayed.

Another good option is to mic a cab. Use 2 different mics positioned in front of 2 different speakers on your cab and run those mics into a mixer then to the interface. Youll end up with a single full/fat track built with 2 layers. Swap amps or cabs or change EQ and play a variation of the track doing the same thing. Its similar to what hes doing except youll only be dealing with 2 rhythm tracks in your final mix as opposed to 4 and only need to record twice (hopefully). Just another method or option.

I don't have a decent computer with DAW/ recording software, microphones, or really anything like that to record my own music, simply because I can't afford it. Though I recently got myself a Boss DD7 which has a loop function in it, and I've been really enjoying making loops on there and layering guitars on top of eachother each with a different tone to make a massive guitar sound. It's really fun, and I wish I could afford a decent computer with all the bits to record my own music!

Had the same question.. so is this the way to pan guitar 3-4 as Rhythms and you add leads to the Middle ? Like drums and base in the middle and lead guitar panning 70-80% L-R ? I'm slightly confused.

Love you music Leo, outstanding. What are your thought of being pre-, on and after the beat when recording guitars? My personal experience is that most of us guitarists are naturally somewhat pre beat when recording, especially new stuff.Then some producer (not when I'm recording at home XD) comes and quantize everything to be on spot like a machine, . But as in recording bass in some genres, being after the beat can make a song get that hang, really swing and groove. Thoughts?

i dont know if this is a dumb question, but if you quad track rhythm guitars, how do you track lead and how to you pan it etc
@paulmyfinger

I would go straight down the middle with lead, it depends on what you want your listener to focus on
@psteeg3551
@psteeg3551 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with what Paul C says. Make one recording of a lead part (solo) and put it in the middle. But you can also make two recordings of it, with slight variations / improvisations, and pan them left/right. That can make the lead part sound amazing. I think Dimebag did that sometimes
@arnavsawhney
@arnavsawhney 5 жыл бұрын
With lead you add some Delay, reverb and some mids boosted so that it cuts through the audio spectrum. Only a single track is required!

Hello Leo ! Gotta say, you're tracks sound massive :) I have some questions though. you're tracking the kemper on stereo tracks, and then panning them hard R and L. Is there a reason for them being stereo tracks ? I don't own a kemper but normally I check all the stereo tracks I receive to know if they are really stereo, or a doubled mono track... keep up the good work!

I am not a professional audio engineer, but I have double tracked my solos. They sound better, but you have to be super tight and precise, otherwise it's just a mess. Also, for rhythm parts you can use less gain and be super tight as well. Less gain but more tracks gives a better sound in my opinion.

Do you place markers on the tracks?

Can u answer my confusion? I am going to record a blues song where there will be one guitar, bass ,organ, drums ans vocals. Here i am not using two guitars, only when i am doing solo parts. Here, the recordist said to record the same guitar track again and pan left and right but i really wanted to do is same like Alex hutchings trio, where there is one guitar, keyboard, bass and drums. So, is it really needed that we should record two guitars same and pan left and right or can we just copy and paste the same file and pan l/R? But, i really want to do is use only one guitar, so is it possible?

It's a quite popular way. The more "different" your L and R channels sound, the more "stereo" your mix will sound. Basically you can change guitar, amp, mic position, etc.. The more you vary, the wider and (generally) fatter your mix will sound.
