On this episode of Scamfish, we interviewed a woman named Cherrie who was scammed out of $6,500 by a man who claimed to be named Sebastian. Cherrie met Sebastian on LinkedIn after seeing that he had invited her to be her friend. Cherrie accepted this friend request and started forming a romantic relationship with him. They would talk every day for hours and eventually moved their conversations to Google Hangouts. One day as she was talking to him, he requested some money to help with some construction equipment. She sent him the money through Bitcoin and gift cards, but something didn't seem right. She found out his identity in the most shocking way... Watch the video and read the article to find out how.

I water fast 3 times a year and I am up to water fasting 5 days at a time now. As humans we have mechanisms to go without food for many days at a time. The only people that can't are those with a diseased liver or kidneys because these are the two tissues that orchestrate the hormones and biochemical processes needed in order to fast. BTW if you want to try fasting which is by far the healthiest thing you can do for yourself first you need to get your liver and kidneys a check-up by me or another doctor, and I would start with 24 hours first and work up from there. I have a playlist about benefits, what to expect, and possible bad reactions over on my channel. I would recommend watching this playlist before attempting a fast.

Well I am a Intensive care nurse, I worked in the emergency rooms as well in Berlin for many years, when you would come up like that... we can't do anything! But if (in theory) a person comes up with blood pressure problems and reveal he hasn't eaten for days we can't send someone like that away! Nobody comes to the hospital in reality and tell us they have no food, they come up with another story where they very well know we have to check on that issue!

@@kathyhodges-ik2zk -- But there are times when scammers can come across as educated, polite individuals with an excellent command of the English language. If the texts originate in places like Nigeria, for instance, you may be talking to a young teacher or engineer who, for reasons of very low government salaries, are desperately looking for a sure and fast way to supplement their meager income. This happens more often than most people realize. It's not always the uneducated dunce that showers their mark with insufferable "pigeon English."

The people who get scammed all start out saying how aware they are of scammers and they're not looking for love, yet they miss the flashing red lights every time. Quick personal connection from a stranger, flattery, flattery, declarations of personal wealth, employment status and philanthropy, flattery, flattery, then sudden requests for money for the weirdest reasons - no money for food, work equipment failure, family illness, legal problems etc etc etc. My line in the sand is that NONE of my friends, lovers, relatives have ever asked me for a loan for anything more than a cup of coffee. I feel sad that these victims self esteem is so low that they are susceptible to these attacks and the money for love line blurs.

@@lionessnala2000 💯 I think some folks are just desperate as heck and turn a blind eye to huge in your face red flags. I honestly have limited sympathy for a lot of the people being scammed now because they willingly feed into straight nonsense. No video chat... but he's some highly ranked military guy. Or he's a super wealthy guy but the camera on his phone doesn't work. Or he's a millionaire trapped in some country with no access to his own money... but he need you to send money in bitcoin. Or he's from France but has a clear Nigerian accent. Or he has always failed to meet up after years of taking tons money from them. Then lots of the victims have a hard time even accepting the truth when the team exposes the scam so easily. I know everyone wants to be loved but geeze... to this point is just ridiculous.

The simplest red flag is anyone asking you for money. Just block snyone asking for money. So simple.

Exactly. After 20 years of warnings about online scams, if you are still that clueless that you send money to a stranger, then they need the money more than you do.

You are missing the point.. These women think they know this person, talking for months and years! So, trust caring are developed.. So, not a 'stranger'!

@@lenitaa7938 Let's say you walk to work. One day, you meet a stranger who smiles and says hello. For the next 8 months that same man greets you each day. Then one day, he asks you for $2,000. because a machine broke down at his job and it needs to be fixed. Do you give it to him? If yes, then you have more money than most people I know.

Why aren't the women called out for their delusional thinking? Their disconnection from reality? This is the real problem. Patronizing them and feeling sorry for them won't fix the problem. These are not victims. They are volunteers.
