You can be brutally honest and still have some tact about it. If a family member asks for my opinion of something, I’m going to say what I feel. But I’m not going to do it in a way that destroys them as a person.

Im 66 and I can still hear my mom say, "You have such a pretty face, if only you'd lose weight!" This mom is hurting her daughter and for what purpose? To make mom feel better about herself!? She's got nothing to talk about. Her daughters are gorgeous!!

I’ve always been chubby and my mom would NEVER say anything disparaging about my weight. She has always told me I was beautiful. I am so thankful to have a kind, gentle mother. And I have always tried to be gentle with other people’s feelings too, as a result.

My advice to the groom of the first bride, immediately move at least 9 hours drive away from that toxic MIL. I’ll also bet money that she does lose weight once they move because she won’t be stress eating anymore. I guarantee, she will also be a toxic grandmother.

i've never "understood" how "brutally honest" translates in to mean/cruel/.a showing of YOUR azz!!!! i can be "brutally honest" and do so with love, kindness, understanding, WELL CHOSEN WORKS AND......A SMILE ON MY FACE while being "brutally honest!!!!!!" to me/for me....the CRUEL "brutally honest" show themselves in ways that make THEM pretty insignificant......but that's jus' me. in case her mom hasn't looked in a MIRROR lately....she's NOT a size 6 or 8 or even a 12 herself and i'll leave it at THAT.....
