Gujarat - Surat’s most iconic mixed vegetable delicacy "Undhiyu", a cult dish that heralds the coming of the chill, which is made only in the winter in Gujarat but available here in Mumbai throughout the year prepared by fresh vegetables sourced from Surat.
We walked the lanes of Mumbai’s oldest Gujarati area in search for some authentic ‘Surti Undhiyu’, and what better place than Bhuleshwar and Mumbadev.
This ancient shop called Hiralal Kashidas Bhajiawala is 88 yrs old. Hiralal Kashidas Shah, came to Bombay form Surat with a thriving business selling ‘Kand’ (purple yam) ‘Bhajiyas’ in Surat, he set up a shop in Mumbai in 1936. Today, this third-generation eatery is carrying forward their grandfather’s legacy of serving authentic Surti food especially Undhiyu.

अलका, मेरा बचपन तो यही फरसाण खाकर शुरू हूआ क्योंकि मेरे माता- पिता जस्ट इसी दुकान के सामने रहते थे। आज मैं 69 साल की हो गयी हूँ। जब भी सुरती फरसाण खाने का मन होता है तब मैं अपने भाईयों के साथ यहीं खिची चली आती हूँ। बहुत ही स्वादिष्ट ❤

I have always loved this place. After migrating to Pune I miss this place where I used to eat oondhiyu and phafda jalebi on all Sunday mornings. I actually love this place and all its snack items offered. Thanks for the video and making me nostalgic.

Excellent video, excellent food my father used to eat at this place maybe this is the third of the fourth generation enjoying it and it was very delightful to hear that the vegetable comes from Surat on daily basis....i too used to regularly visit this place is my childhood the positive point is excellent n authentic taste ....negative point is its very dirty like they keep the dustbin just next to your eating table (atleast during my visits) they need a prompt cleanliness drive.....otherwise an excellent place....a heritage place... I will give 8 marks out of 10.

@@explorewithalka Have been to this place for years and have stopped for a decade as they are really unhygienic in terms of where they cook all the food and how they maintain. Taste is always better in snacks and street food when it's more unhygienic :)

My family’s all time favourite restaurant,v still relish its delicacies wen v visit Bhuleshwar. My sis in law stays just 2 buildings away . My dad still has a shop in Bhuleshwar & v ve been enjoying all the items since childhood.one of the iconic restaurants in whole Mumbai… Thanks for the amazing vlog n let ppl know abt such iconic oldest food eateries in Mumbai ❤

इसे पूरी के साथ खाते है या फुलका और पराठे के साथ भी खा सकते हैं। वहां पर उंधियू ज्यादातर पार्सल ही लेकर जाते है इसलिए साथ में खाने के लिए कुछ नहीं है। आप चाहो तो थेपला ले सकते हो

Alka, thanks, the undhya of Hiralal Kashidas is absolutely knock out n it's taste lingers on till the next season. However you missed out on their mixed farsan which has methi bhajiya in it. It's super tasty. Please include that too in your next video

Alka ji ..arvi patta pakoras or bhajiya what ever you may call them are quite popular in UP and available in Delhi too . Are sprinkled with some masala and or seved with a tamarind or dhaniya pudina ki now world famous "green" chutney.

Well there was a time when I use to stay just 2 minutes away from this restaurant. When we were kids Sunday used to be special because my Dad use to get Fafda Jalebi with the special chutney for Breakfast. Downside is my Best School friend use to stay on 2nd floor of the Restaurant building and once he told me never ever ever have food in the Restaurant because the kids use to put all wrong things in the chutney what they use to keep out in the vacant place below the stairs. From that day onwards I had never being to that place. My friend himself was a school kid and he himself told me what kind of wrong things they use to put it in the chutney. Yes he was wrong but it was just kinda game for kids. The Management really must be concerned about these things.
