We travelled from Mumbai to Goa in a Volkswagen Polo DSG, we took the route from Mumbai to Karad and then took an exit for Malkapur after crossing the town of Karad. The roads are pretty good upto Pachwal, which comes after Anuskura Ghat and after that there's a small patch of potholes but it's way better than the Amboli Route and also there is very less traffic, but finding a good restaurant uptil Rajapur an be an issue. Currently everyone is preferring this Route over the usual Amboli Route is because of the road conditions from Nipani - Ajra, hence we too decided to take the Anuskura Ghat Route and it turned out to be a good decision.
