Mumbai. Wealth and Poverty / Real Life in Indian Slums

Let's go!

Жыл бұрын

Today we have the most contrasting city in the world - Mumbai (formerly Bombay). Here billionaires build themselves palaces of 40 floors and live under the protection of armored cars and special forces. And nearby - people survive on a couple of dollars a month. And next to them are people who survive on a couple of dollars a month. In Mumbai, slum dwellers have become almost a separate nation. They refuse to leave them, even when they can. What does an Indian paradise look like? And how life really works in the stone jungle of India's largest city.
Episode about Delhi • India from the inside:...

A slum at the foot of the billionaire apartments. You don't get it. Let me explain. ALL those millionaires and billionaires NEED servants and maids. CHEAP servants and maids. Because CHEAP is what keeps them RICH. Those slums are vital for the existance of the rich. So no big deal...that's the way the system works.

You have explained it very accurately India has everything, from poor to rich. India did not try to hide the poor and as the Country grow poor people found work making more money their living situation will also get better, even these slums are going to be revamped (when it will happen god knows, what work will start soon). India suffers from horrible Government Corruption. That more than anything is what has held them back for so long. Half a million USD for a small Condo built by men that earn at most 300 USD a month, the Government and property developers are making a killing, those Condos shouldn't cost more than 100K. What I find most disgusting is in a city with so much wealth, they can't even give these people a functioning sewer system, horrible corruption.

Mumbai has 22 million people and out of them 1 million live in Dharavi slums. Why is this guy only focusing on 1 million people and ignoring the rest? What's the point of showing only slums in a rich city like Mumbai? Mumbai has one of the best metro systems, especially the newly built ones are world class. Mumbai has a nominal GDP per capita of around US$10,600 So, instead of lecturing here get some knowledge and focus on your own country

@@matgranger5061 I shouldn't criticizes India, every Country has problems, Fair enough. We have homeless people with extremely rich people here in the US as well. Its just sad to see such extreme wealth and poverty in any city. I don't know much about India, that is why I found some of these KZfaq videos interesting. I see you googled Mumbai's per capita GDP, which I admit is higher than I would have thought, but that is the average and it is greatly skewed higher by the super rich, not the median income, which I have no doubt is less than half the US $10,600 Per capita GDP you quoted.

The only thing I can suggest to peoples living in these types inhumane conditions is to stop having children when they themselves know they can barely eat and care for themselves, especially for those living in the slums and too poor to even leave the slums. I don’t know who they are competing with, and I am saying that respectfully, but peoples living in extreme poverty in countries around the world should make a conscious effort NOT to have a lot of children to later subject them to the same misery they’ve been already-in. It simply doesn’t make sense at this point. Smh 🤦🏽‍♂️😓

Many famous economist have predicted that India will become the 4th worldpower (after US, EU, China) within nxt 20 years. Their age pyramid is healthy, and the economy develops and diverfies very fast, foreign investments will grow exponentially there, the education level in Indian universities peak every year more. And in futute they can even challenge China. Like in China, the size of middle class explodes. I believe that the prediction the interviewed guy said in this vlog that 'Mumbai in 30 years will be like Dubai' will happen, no doubt on it. So watch out, the rest of the world! Those few rich ppl that I happen to know in India, are among the smartest ever met. And there are very many if them, living in India. Not only in US or UK. Your vlog value will have more weight, along the time. So keep the copy in safe!

As per the guy, each person washes 1000 peices of clothing a day, they charge Rupees 5 per clothing, then he is earning Rs 5000($60) a day, per month is $1440, which is good money! These are not slums but small scale industries!

I find it so sad, that we in this world have such inequity, there is so much land on this planet, that every single person could have an acre of property, and it would not even take up the entire state of alaska. The inequality between the excessively rich, and the poor,,, awful. In my heart, when those who have so much, don't even have the heart to help make a better world for the other 99% is pure heartless. One thing we do know, the poorer the people, the kinder they appear to be and the more human they are. Those who are poor will share their meal, and often everything else,,,I truly doubt if we went to one of the mansions, that they would even share a conversation

This is just the problem. Most Indians are still poor. Only a very few have. I wouldn't go to Indian and who on earth would pay that amount of money for a property in India.

I once read this absolutely fascinating book by a New Zealand fugitive who ended up in Dharavi slum and made a life there for himself. Forgot the title but this was one of the most interesting books on life in Mumbay.

I'm sorry but not everyone is proud of living in the slum. Sending false information like they enjoy working 14hours everyday for what you spend in a restaurant. Biased documentary
