What's the fastest vertical travel in Minecraft? What's the fastest Minecraft Elevator? How fast can you travel in Minecraft?
These are all questions that keep me up at night! So in today's Mumbo minecraft video, we do some Minecraft science experiments, and work out the fastest way to travel in Minecraft 1.16. We have Minecraft water elevators, Minecraft TNT player launchers, Minecraft Ender pearl stasis chambers, and riptide trident elevators.

Just reading through the comments - turns out 'Skip the tutorial' did an update on my original list! With that being said - a few of the fastest methods (Including the 2 fastest) weren't featured in theirs. However they do cover a large variety of different alternative methods I didn't mention. Sloweset method: Bed ladder. Like the minecart elevator, but you have to wait a day every time you travel up because you can only sleep at night.

You can just enter the bed when it's night and instantly exit it, you don't have to sleep so it wouldn't take too long.

The horse cake ladder isn’t actually that quick, yes, it is very fast, but it’s much more complicated that most of the things that he showed in the video and have a chance to get broken(you it the cake, horse die or get out) and it would probably be around 4 or 5 place, so doesn’t actually worth it

The soul sand elevator is definitely my favorite. It's not the fastest method, but in terms of resources, it is cheaper than even ladders (1 soul sand + 1 bucket + 4 fence posts) while being 5 times faster and, not requiring any player input, and being stupid simple. Just having something that's nearly as fast as the drop shaft is satisfying af.

It has one small problem: it doesn't work in the nether and that's the problem i ran into while trying to connect my base up to the nether highway... my base is at y = 46, the highway is at y = 119

The pearl activation system is incredible, I've tested it in single-player and even when you quit or unload the chunk, when you come back the pearl is still there !

soul sand one seems like it'd be the best "early" game elevator, resources are easy to come by, don't need that much of them at all besides kelp to build

I stopped playing before the elytra was implemented so this is useful information for a returning player from way back. I remember being excited about the granite/diorite/andesite blocks, and a time before slime blocks. My friend used to use your sticky piston door design come to find out and taught it to me on our old server. I was obsessed with them, I installed them needlessly into every build I could imagine

You can also mix the Water Elevator, the Minecart Elevator, and the Riptide 3 Trident. You put water every 30 or so blocks, held to a layer or 2 by signs (like they were held minecarts), and launch up each step.

Great vid! Kind of silly to admit but since it's been so long since I've played unmodded Minecraft, I didn't know about the soul sand changes until just now. Due to convenience and ease of understanding, that's definitely the option I'm going to go with out of the ones you showcased, but the rest were absolutely fantastic. Always amazing to see the way folks mess with the physics of Minecraft to produce some incredible results.

One reason for the time sink in the second water elevator is that traveling up a water stream is slower when the water has blocks adjacent to it.

Fun fact: If the ender pearl stasis chamber moves you in 0.5 seconds and you put it from bedrock to build limit it would move you at 1679 feet per second! That's 1.49 times the speed of sound!

Wooooow, I got to try that ender stasis chamber and the slime elevator. Both very cool. Been using soul sand elevators but I don't like the roleplaying idea of my character getting wet everytime they use the elevator haha

When I started, the only fastest ways to travel were walking, boat elevators, bobbing in the water, and ladders. Actually, there were tons. Like mine-carts and tnt, and that might be it.

Mumbo I've wanted someone to make a 6 way flying machine ever since the honey block came out. You would be able to use it to go anywhere without an Elytra. To rise, to descend, and go left, right, forward and backwards. I thought having both slime blocks and honey blocks now made it possible. Please make one.

I think SciCraft might make something like that? I know they've made crazy good multi-directional flying machines. It would be entertaining to see Mumbo make something similar… he seems to have really enjoyed pushing limits with those kind of machines. :}

This video gave me an idea. Have an ender pearl stasis chamber in my bedroom hooked up to a daylight sensor. That way, when it turns to night it will automatically teleport me back to the bedroom where I can sleep the night away. Unnecessary, but actually quite cool.

Most I know about the Stasis Chamber, is that its THE fastest long-distance transportation... in multiplayer. You set one up, go a million blocks away, and have your buddy hit the trapdoor.

the thing with the stasis chamber is that if you go outside of render distance it will despawn due to it being an entity, unless you set up a ticking area in order to keep entities loaded in that area

Now that the hight limit is more some get buffed alot like mumbo said it takes 0.5 seconds to travel 100 blocks with the pearl statis chamber travels at 768 blocks/second. That is insane! If the total height was more it would travel even more. The total height right now is 384 with the newest snapshot and the statis chamber can travel that in 0.5 seconds! And that's the limit of the world not it's speed.

I feel like the minecart elevator is where I would be going as it doesn't require anything once setup. Obviously the ender pearl ones are going to be quick but unless you've got some sort of ender pearl farm I'm not sure you'd have enough.
