I used to work in a restaurant that had one of these guys just outside, he was always super nice so during the winter I bring him out coffee and he would always bring the staff a bunch of bags of nuts when he would shut down for the night (the same time as the restaurant). Man those things are delicious!

Everyone forgotten about the fights he has to do to defend his stall and business from the aggressive drugged up drunk and homeless people. I really respect streetworkers they have to put up with so much from crazy people who wont leave them alone to do business for paying customers and attack them and their cart for no reason or demanding free food/money. As a retail worker in a store atleast I could walk away or call for manager help from a crazy situation to calm it down but they are alone stuck on their corner of the street open for anything to happen to them at any time. Respect for anyone that can tough out dangerous situations on the job and keep on going.

Agreed. Its a good thing he can throw hot nuts at the faces of any homeless people that happen to be both physically agressive and entitled. I don't think thats what the latter was expecting when they were thinking of free food haha.

I live in LA and when I first went to NYC to visit some friends, they were raving about these. Not going to lie...they smelled amazing and tasted awesome. I mowed through a whole bag of the mixed variety right then and there and got 2 more bags of the peanut ones to go. They were just a couple of bucks a bag which blew my mind considering everything else in NYC was crazy expensive.

the BEST dessert in NYC, their cashews were such a big part of my childhood. What's amazing is that they have a website now, so if you moved from NYC you can still get this treat. I recently ordered 2 pounds worth, and I'm so happy I did. They taste just like I remembered. Alex has the best recipe for honey roasted nuts, others I've had never taste as good as his. And he seems so down to earth as well. Much respect to him! I'm happy I can support another POC owned business :)

The recipe for the garrapiñadas is originally from Spain, possibly of Arab influence, one of many delicious things that we take to the new world, although many insist on keeping the bad and appropriating exclusively for their countries the good.
