Broken body, broken heart and soul. So many ways to be broken. I went to Scotland to do a one month housesit in a historic east coast village, I walked, I explored, i marvelled and fell in love with it all. I found a house, a pink stone one, with the sea on three sides of it, and moved in. Just me and my carry on bag. I walked along a coastline that didn’t have anything to say what era I was in. I soaked up the stories, the myths and legends and felt it deeply. A week later my son back in Canada took his life. After returning to Canada, and all the decisions I had to make, I came back to my new home numb, broken, suffering post traumatic stress, the only thing that made sense to me was the patterns nature makes. The way the waves create ridges and curves on the sand, the sound of pebbles as they roll and slip when pushed by the sea, a little bay with shells that I could press into my palm, rippling grasses and the slow movement of haar, tendrils of it reaching for me from the sea. Scotland healed me, I found my self again, I baked myself a new life. I baked for cafes, pubs and poured myself into things that would bring pleasure to others. I connected with my son through my memories of him enjoying my food. This show, this man, this country have brought back this intense time for me.

Giles Duley is a total badass. He lost both legs and one arm while serving as a combat photographer in Afghanistan. Eating crabs and lobster in his car with one arm! He is dominating!

Spot on about a cook for sous chef because I have been both but when I was called a chef and people would find out, I didn’t have a formal education they would immediately look down on me, but when I was in a job where I was technically a line cook people were so amazed that I could come up with things at the last minute when we ran out of ingredients and I would just say yes, I learned everything I know from my grandmother and the galloping gourmet lol

Scotland is one of, if the not most beautiful place I have ever visited in my life. If you ever get the opportunity to visit, the farther up you go, the more that you will fall in love.

Perhaps the most enjoyable food show I have ever watched. My heart is filled with love after this hour. Eating top-quality seafood in your car . . . it's like I am a student again. You can have a Michelin restaurant in your car; little wine, little food and the beauty of this wonderful creation we call Mother Earth. Blessed be.

Blimey! No words for Giles Duley's achievement. When I was studying at the University I had to write an essay on a free subject. I wrote: " If I'm given a lemon, I'll turn it into lemonade" I got the highest mark. haven't had much time to watch anything lately, and just generally been very down, but so glad that i made the time to watch this brilliant segment from beginning to end. born and raised in canada, but have had an affinity for scotland/all things scottish as far back as i can remember. as a small boy, it mostly existed as this epic and mythical faraway landscape from films and tales, but as i grew older, it extended to being the home of my beloved brown liquid, which really does have the ability to transport you to different times and places, as well as to the warmest people, some of the most incredible foods, and overall just such an amazing culture. i so badly want to visit; to explore as much of the land as i can. mr. giles, you are fucking amazing- i cannot wait to crush more of whatever it is you output. a new fan from canada, and a photographer myself- would be honoured to snap your portrait someday.

I went on a week long trip to Scotland when I was 10 and I did a 12 hour bus tour and went all around. It's by far the most beautiful part of the UK and the people are the friendliest within the UK. As a Londoner, it was a completely different experience and it was like I had gone to a different country. I highly recommend anyone to go up to Scotland. The Highlands and the Loch Ness are really nice places to go to

Went to Scotland a few years back with my family and went on tours, drove around and I just fell in love with the Highlands. Some places which I unfortunately have lost the name for was just straight out of a book. Absolutely magical. I want to go back soon to experience more of it, maybe even camp out in the wild for a few days.

My wife and I are Scottish, we emigrated to australia 35 years ago. We tried for ages to get some haggis here but to no avail. So we now make our own…it’s fantastic! It goes really well with the wild venison we shoot here on our sugar cane farm… the best things in life are grown, shot and cooked by your own hand. Great video, thanks.

With both my husband and I avid deer hunters there was at least 25 years spent with venison being the major meat on the table. I think I cooked/ baked/ fried in every way possible..and I used it as the meat in dishes from around the world. Wish I could go to the land of my grandfather..happy eating to all.

This guy genuinely inspires me, you don’t need to be a massive success story of being a trillionaire, becoming the leader of a country, a celebrity, a pro athlete, etc. He came back missing most of his limbs which would crush most peoples lives but he fought back and seems to be living a great life. I wish I had a 1/10th of his strength and hopefully one day I can follow through on that with my own life’s problems. A strong, charismatic, charming, and inspiring gentlemen, I wish you the best in life.

There is a lot I can say here. And I hope that it finds the right eyes to descend. A lot of wishes, a lot of history to bore with and find recognition for. Yet, I desire to fulfill life in a way that is found here. Homely, transcendent, historical, but oh so earthen. Life is hard, I'm sure for a lot of us, and jealousy can really be wrought out of us from these videos. Yet, we can choose for it to be a real inspiration. A person to be, a place to call home, knowing community. All this video brings me strength and knowing. That life changes, and often forwards. Happiness happens in and for itself.
