NO-ONE wants him coming for them, trust. Stormzy engaged with Wiley (whose YT views will be similar numbers to Chip) I believe for these reasons: 1: because Stormzy’s self-proclaimed ‘King of Grime’ title has always been highly questionable because he’d never proven himself in a clash - a core part of Grime culture. 2: If he beat Wiley - the Godfather of Grime - in a clash, it would give more weight to his King of Grime claim. 3. Wiley, for all that his flow, cadence and sound epitomise everything that is central to Grime, is known to be erratic and not always on point in all of his output, so the risk to Stormzy was far less than with Chip, who could easily end careers with his pen. We’ve all seen how brutal Chip can be - he takes no prisoners. And he is by far a more lyrical, techy MC than Stormzy (and Wiley). I mean, his flows are INSANE. The chance was high that Stormzy would lose on every level. Whilst it looks kinda craven, I believe Stormzy did the right thing sticking to subliminals. The odds are high he would have lost (and he knew it) so protecting his growing popularity and career was definitely the right call. He’s a different kind of artist to Chip, and probably does need to stick to what he’s good at so fair play to him. Would be great to see what you make of an actual Chip track… Try his tune Darth Vader. It’s fire - and made me a firm Chip fan. 🔥🔥🔥
