Phantom 5 Nostalgia | My DJI Wish from recent Leaks

DJI recently had a planned leak around a new industrial type drone that looks more enterprise than consumer/commercial and it got me thinking. Initially I was excited at the possibility of this drone being a new Phantom and got myself thinking how important the Phantom was in terms of the history of drones and how important it is to us the drone pilots. While DJI has made it there mission to prioritize portability and size. I think the current GAP between the full-frammed Inspire 3 and the Mavic 3 Micro 4/3 leaves a nice spot where the Phantom drone can still exist. As far as technology has gone a APS-C is 1.6 times the size of a micro 4/3 and I believe that DJI possesses the ability to make a Phantom 5 with a APS-C sensor with interchangable lenses PERFECT for the commercial drone pilot who may not have the 20K budget of an Inspire 3. CONSIDER IT DJI....

It would be cool if they did this but I don't know if their bean counters would see it as something worth doing. I'd like to see it though. The XDynamics birds are wicked cool too but are a niche market for photography (mostly). A Phantom 5 in the same price category of the X2 would put a smile on a lot of faces. Probably not XDynamics though. The adjustable aperture in an APSC camera in the under $4K range would get some serious photographer's perked up. It would put it between the Mavic 3P and the Inspire which is a serious jump up in price. Good thoughts CP. I don't include the Mavic 3 Cine because that's more about the format than the camera.

Well said. I know a lot of commercial pilots that do it full time that want more than a Mavic 3, but less than an Inspire. To have a APS-C with different lens options even at sub 5K price point would be an enticing option. To DJI’s credit they definitely have a drone for every market segment, but I do believe strongly that there is still a gap between Inspire and Mavic 3 that still exists. I appreciate your input.

I 100% agree! We all have been waiting for a P5Pro for a long time now. Even if DJI came came out with something like a hybrid between the phantom series and the Inspire series for their prosumers crowd, which I think are their biggest consumers, would be a giant hit at a lower price point

They forget about us non-Hollywood guys that work commercial and need the very best image available, but don’t want to spend 20K on an inspire.
