Murals for Gaza: Bo-Kaap residents show solidarity for Palestine

Residents of Bo Kaap, a historic neighbourhood in Cape Town, started a project called "Murals for Gaza". The community worked with artists both inside Bo Kaap and across the city to paint murals on the walls of homes in the famous neighbourhood. They also painted a large Palestinian flag across three buildings in the Bo Kaap flats. The community, who have a long history of struggle against apartheid and these days a struggle against gentrification, says the murals and paintings are a message to the world that Bo Kaap stands with the Palestinians.

Great work and organizing! I've been following all art expressions supporting Gaza. Short stories, poems, music, architecture, paintings, murals, caricature, theater, cinema & even stand-up comedy and embroidery. This culture is so rich, so dynamic and diverse but interconnected, despite all the Apartheid walls and checkpoints. We must support them, each according to their abilities. I'll use my art to do this. Collectivize, organize, raise awareness, read, listen, watch, learn about the culture, history and future. Contribute, make art, write, have conversations, imagine. Love & solidarity to all of Palestine 🇵🇸

Congratulations South Africa! In Canada where I live, painting a mural in support or Palestinians would be against the law. You may be sued for making some people feel unsafe or even charged with a hate crime.. Thanks to South Africa for standing up for justice in Palestine. U r seeing things from ur privileged perch. So STFU. There are different rules for Palestinians living in Israel which do not apply to jews. There are certain roads only jews can walk in. Palestinians living in Israel r being arrested for showing an ounce of empathy for their families being killed in gaza and west bank. If that's not apartheid I don't know what is.
