Murder of Couriers documents the lives of a group of bike messengers over a nearly three-year span. This film was made by couriers, about couriers, for a wide general audience and offers the chance to experience a lifestyle that not many get the privilege to enjoy. With the emerging popularity of urban fashion, extreme sports, green living and alternative lifestyles, people all over the world have begun to take to the streets on two wheels. At the heart of this general movement is a race of individuals who are indifferent to the cause. Indifferent only because they’ve always lived it. Now people around the world are beginning to look at bike messenger culture as a simple unifier of modern ideals. “A perfect marriage of work and play created by those who have learned to cut through the traffic of an uneventful life.” Murder of Couriers investigates this culture through the eyes of the people who live it daily.

2 time I watch it, and it’s still very informative and entertaining. Being a messenger was a dream I had many years ago which unfortunately never materialized. But here I’m at 62 years and still loving riding my brake less fixed gear. 😊

Bike courier is such a romantic job because you get to look and feel like a homeless person and also make almost no money

I was a bike messenger in San Francisco 1987 to 1990. I always went with road bikes for speed and less weight for the hills than mountain bikes. I always wore a helmet. In Frisco you have tons of traffic, street car and cable car tracks, Nob Hill can be steep enough to have steps cut in on the sidewalk. The best of us were called Gravy Dogs. Our big money was court filings. You might go to 3 law firms then go to SF City hall and get in line for 20 minutes and charge each law firm 45 minutes wait. Best shape I've ever been in. 4 to 600 miles a week. Broke a good number of bikes.

All these folks seem sketched the hell out 😂 Are there any other people who don’t look like they live one day to the next without any future planning? I don’t know of any retired bike messengers living the “Good Life” without worrying of how to pay the bills when they just can’t pedal anymore. I get it - doing this in your 20’s or so… but it does seem a little sad.

This video makes me nostalgic for a decade ago. I wonder what these guys are up to now? Hope they're alive and happy.

How could anyone afford to live in Vancouver, even ten years ago and still have money for beer and smokes on a bike courier’s earnings.

The KZfaq algorithm sent me my own film. Didn't even know this was on KZfaq. Not sure if it's a copyright issue, but I couldn't care less. Thanks for posting. Nice to see people still watching it.

Love it. I am 65 years old. I did this work in Boston starting in 1983 and in spurts thereafter until oh... 1996. I still don't own a car. I miss the strong women. Comrades all.

Awesome doc! In college I used to wait till the sun was setting and take the train to downtown San Diego and just rip laps in traffic with no plan, no worries. This video made me miss that feeling super hard

One of my first jobs in NYC was bike messenger. Loved it. Rode a Giant BMX with mag wheels! Weaving through Midtown traffic was so much fun

Just got this in my youtube feed and was a bit scared by the title, but it came as something very dear - worked as a bike messenger in Sydney for quite some time in 2000s so feel myself like a part of the movie alright , culture is similar around the world, I think I met some of these guys on some of CMWCs , I guess a lot has changed since 2012, so watching this film is really like a travel in time. Thanks!
