In questo video vediamo un incontro con la Murena mediterranea, Murena Helena, fatto con tre diverse telecamere e quindi da varie angolazioni. Siamo su una parete rocciosa sommersa a circa quaranta metri di profondità e vediamo la murena con il corpo parzialmente fuori dalla sua tana.
Durante il giorno infatti questi animali rimangono praticamente imbucati assumendo questa classica posizione per controllare il loro territorio; mentre di solito la notte cacciano uscendo dalla tana perlustrando il fondale in cerca di cibo.
Come in altri articoli con queste immagini sfatiamo il mito dell' aggressività della Murena. La Murena Helena tiene praticamente la bocca sempre aperta, mostrando quindi la sua potente dentatura, per poter respirare e incanalare l'acqua nel piccolo opercolo branchiale dietro la testa per estrarre l'ossigeno.
Nel video ci siamo avvicinati abbastanza da poter vedere il dente centrale situato nel palato, grazie a questo il morso della murena è praticamente infallibile. Serrando la bocca questi canini ricurvi creano una morsa dalla quale è praticamente impossibile sfuggire.
Le murene possono essere aggressive con i sub solo quando si sentono realmente minacciate, e reagiscono quindi mordendo. La murena non è assolutamente velenosa contrariamente a quanto si creda. La sua saliva però contiene sostanze neurotossiche ed emolitiche. In caso di morso c'è il rischio che si sviluppino infezioni, perché tra i suoi denti sono spesso presenti residui alimentari che sviluppano agenti patogeni.
Dal momento che è piuttosto comune nei nostri mari rimane sempre un pesce il cui incontro è insolito e bello da poter fotografare, dal momento che di giorno passa la maggior parte del tempo in buca e quindi è difficile da trovare.

As in other articles with these images we dispel the myth of the aggressiveness of the moray eel. The Moray Helena practically keeps its mouth always open, thus showing its powerful teeth, in order to breathe and channel the water into the small gill operculum behind the head to extract oxygen.
In the video we got close enough to be able to see the central tooth located in the palate, thanks to this the moray bite is practically infallible. Clamping the mouth these curved canines create a vice from which it is practically impossible to escape.
Moray eels can only be aggressive towards divers when they feel really threatened, and therefore react by biting. The moray eel is absolutely not poisonous contrary to what is believed. However, his saliva contains neurotoxic and haemolytic substances. In the event of a bite, there is a risk that infections will develop, because food residues that develop pathogens are often present between his teeth.
Since it is quite common in our seas, there is always a fish whose encounter is unusual and beautiful to be photographed, since during the day it spends most of its time in the hole and therefore is difficult to find.
