Senator Chris Murphy, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, on Thursday spoke on the U.S. Senate floor on Republicans’ refusal to work with Democrats to address the crisis at the border they pretend to care about because they would rather help Trump’s re-election.

That bill was a significant way to address the issues at out borders. It was too harsh about too much for my taste. As a nation of immigrants we should not be so xenophobic and cruel to people (humans!) fleeing poverty and violence to come to this country for a better life. When you look at the numbers, immigrants help our economy far more than they cost taxpayers for any of these systems to monitor and regulate who comes in and how they can apply. But Senator Murphy is exactly right to say that the GOP only want to complain about this issue, leaving it unsolved, as a way to generate outrage, fear, and campaign $$$$. The remains of the GOP have lost their way. And the people who traditionally vote for the GOP should reexamine if their own leaders deserve their support at all. I say the GOP leaders are con men, criminals, and frauds (and apologists who will allow the crooks to operate without restraint). Tanking THEIR OWN border bill to exploit the problem for money and votes reinforces that impression. Shameful. Thank you Sen Murphy for your words. Sharpen them, even.
