Our journey through the highway, especially across Northern India, is incomplete without a stopover at a dhaba. And the main attraction of a dhaba is its rustic style food. Talking about the menu in general, the most ubiquitous thing on it is parathas. Paired with dollops of white butter, curd or dal, these irresistible flatbreads fill your stomach and your heart with gratification.
Due to the immense craze about the dhaba food, in recent times dhaba clusters have come across places. One such popular cluster around Delhi is at the city of Murthal in Haryana. Situated 47 km away from the capital, it is home to some iconic dabha that have evolved into shining restaurants.
Recently we had visited one such renowned dhaba in Murthal named Gulshan Dhaba to taste its hot selling fare which is aloo paratha along with our genial host from Sonipat, Paras. The amusing facade leads to the dining space that has two seating sections and other attractions like a confectionery etc.
We first went to the kitchen to witness all the non stop action going on there. There were separate sections for separate cuisines. We explored the paratha section. The sight of the tandoors and the ninja-like skills of the workers rolling out and frying the parathas was simply fascinating.
We then joined the owners Gulshan Ji and Manoj Ji over a delicious looking aalu paratha platter. After a brief conversation about their journey, we went ahead to devour the enticing paratha. There were two varieties of aalu paratha-the tandoor baked and the griddle fried. The platter was also accompanied by kadhai paneer and chana masala. We loved the tandoori paratha and white butter combo because of the layers of flavours ranging from savoury, smoky, buttery etc.
Murthal is best known for its parathas and Gulshan Dhaba is definitely one of the celebrated places serving the same.

Although Gulshan and Amreek maintain a quality, but the rustic dhaba feel is long gone. It is a fine-dine feel now! Glad you enjoyed it! First time seen an interview of the owner of one of the mega dhabas of murthal

Another great place explored.... Keep up the good work! Anubhav - just one suggestion - At times we cannot clearly hear what others are speaking as they are not wearing mic (For eg it was hard to hear what the cook explained). In such cases, can you please add subtitles or repeat what the person is saying. Adding subtitles will be better...

Iam noting this from Haryana food tour that the restaurant may be in Haryana but swad and delicacy have Bihari hands behind almost everywhere. Salute to these men who leave home, go anywhere and achieve adopt by their hardwork.

All these dhabas are owned by Punjabis. There nothing haryanvi in them. All the food items are typical punjabi. And the people working there have learnt to cook that way by their Punjabi chefs!

Anubhavji, There was one dhaba in mumbai ( Khar Station) called Manjit da dhaba. It is closed since many years. They used to serve Daal Makhani which was best according to me. I have never got that taste till now. Can you me find that taste anywhere in India.

Iske opposite side wale road me thode dilli ke taraf jaoge to chota sa do dhaba milte hai, Ganpat aur Fauzi dhaba. Jhopad/shed type ka hai..but they make the best paranthas in entire murthal with really fresh white makkhan. Paranthe bhi kaafi bade bade hote hain unke. You can just review murthal alone for paranthas. Shaare dhabon ki wahan ki rating kar do. Bade bade dhabon ki gas nikal jayegi fir.

I have grown fond of eating white butter only after eating in Murthal. Now i buy, white butter for parathas. And table butter ( yellow salted ) for bread toasts. I have eaten a dozen times at Gulshan. Inki peeli dal , makhni se bhi zyada badhiya hai.

@@Gamergirll0.5 see. There are 2 types of butter. One is normal white butter , the other is Table Butter the salty yellow one. You can put dollops of white butter over your parantha ...as its taste is a little sweet . But you cant do that with yellow salted butter. I once walked into a café in mumbai, bun maska. .. i actually removed and wiped all of that yellow butter. Bcoz they put it in huge qty. Which is difficult to eat
