CORRECTION! The Lovely Levator Scapula does NOT do upward rotation. It does DOWNWARD rotation. I'm going to blame my editor (me) and my content person (me) for this oversight.... Thank you Sylvie Moquin for catching this!

Rebel Massage hey girl!! I absolutely LOVE your tutorials like this! It helps me so much in my structure and movement classes because I am in school for massage therapy right now! It would also be super awesome if after these tutorials you showed specific massage techniques for the muscles to really help the understanding!

What does this mean for growing this muscle in a bodybuilding scene? I figure heavy shrugs will grow the levator scapula but this is making me think perhaps a heavy shrug upwards and a very slow decent could be best for muscle growth?

Just wonderful. I watch this as a patient. AND it is soooo helpful to understand what the muscles and bones do when they move and their functions. So when the therapist ‘works’ the muscles, I can be a better patient

This is such an informative video. It's hard to tell how the muscle affects movement but this diagram illustrates it perfectly. I have reoccurring chronic pain right where the two large muscle bands meet. For the longest time I just knew that my trapezoid hurt but then I was was able to classify it down to the levator scapula.i can crack mine, it's so stiff and painful. I must have torn it a long time ago . It's been a reoccurring pain of mine and is so annoying.

Your anatomy videos are my all time favorite. I wish they were s but longer though. I would love to learn massage massage strokes to work each muscle that you are teaching . Plus a bit more detail. Just some feedback. It’s just hard to let it soak in because you talk so fast that I need to watch the videos several times. I would be in heaven if you did all the muscles in one video. Please please please...💙💜💛💜💙

Oh wow- my neck muscles are messed up bad. Life of over crunching then over stretching. And that “perfect storm” point? On the left side of my neck if I turn you can see a visible lump that isn’t on the other side. Notably whej my physical therapist for tmj worked on that shoulder/side of the neck his “ahh this is all standard” vibe changed and he went “huh… that’s… really tight” I could go on but the point is these are brilliant tutorials that are making so many other lessons finally click together in a way that I can use- not only in trying to get my body to work with me again but picking up art again once it can. Anatomy painting looks fun as a supplement to learning how to use my own without tearing it tf apart

Wonderful drawing and love your videos. Only the Levator scapulae does a DOWNWARD rotation of scapulae. That is why its tension affects the good mecanic of lifting the arm up cause it prevents a normal upward rotation of scapula.

Constant pain in this area may be due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) linked to a Hiatal Hernia and/or an H. pylori infection ( I had to do an endoscopy with biopsy to confirm this as it did not show in my blood or stool even though it was in my stomach). You would be surprised how problems with your gastrointestinal tract affect your overall well-being. Symptoms may include unexplained weight loss and difficulty gaining weight, iron deficiency, anemia, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, sudden severe cold, palpitations (high pulse), high blood pressure or even slightly low blood pressure.

I had to laugh when you called the levator the perfect storm because I refer to it's attachment site on the scapula as the bermuda triangle of pain number 2. Number 1 being just inferior and lateral to the TL junction, in that area where the ribs start to float out, but closer to the spine.

I noticed you drew the origin as the cervical vertebrae C1-C4 and the insertion as the spinous process of T1, the medial border of the scapula, and the acromion process... If I'm not mistaken, I believe the only area of insertion is the medial border between the superior angle and spine of scapula for the elevator scapula muscle?

I thought it was actually downwardly rotating the scapula. The opposite of what you said, which is why we usually want to raise our arm overhead to upwardly rotate the scapula and stretch the LS
