Are you dealing with Muscle Tension Dysphonia (MTD) and you are not sure why it is taking so long to get rid of it? Maybe you have some vocal strain symptoms or experience voice tension on occasions. Let me share 5 important factors to consider when it comes to muscle tension dysphonia treatment. This is a complex condition that needs to be addressed from many different angles, like specific muscle tension dysphonia treatment exercises with different goals, muscle tension dysphonia massage and how it affects you, muscle tension dysphonia exercises in the field of physiotherapy, muscle tension dysphonia therapy from other medical professionals. So, if you are looking for answers to how to treat muscle tension dysphonia, look as wide as you can. Don’t just consider the narrow muscle tension dysphonia symptoms, look at your whole body and mind.

This is 100% me! I have been working for the same company for 16 years using my voice professionally non stop for 8 or more hours a day. I'm also a singer on top of this. about 3 months ago I was sick with Covid and then got sick with 3 viruses after that I had to work straining my voice during this time. One day I had major pain, tension, swelling in my vocal cord area. The pain and strain has not gone away in 3 months and I'm scared I'm stuck like this. I have saw an ENT and have pending appointments with a laryngologist and speech therapist but it takes several months to get an appointment. Im almost always in pain when i talk and have used my vacation time at work just to get days off to rest my voice. I feel so sad and desperate to have my vocal cords healed as this effects my life and career.

🙋🏻‍♀️I have MTD, and I like your videos. I have seen an SLP (voice therapist) for MTD at my ENT’s office and recovered well. I still have issues with air flow on the last word in a sentence, but I’m thrilled the pain is gone. I’ve found that recovery is not immediate. It takes time. I’d love to hear your thoughts on breath support throughout an entire sentence. I know I could breathe more during a sentence, but I really do feel I should be able to get more mileage out of my sentences (air-wise). Thank you for your helpful videos! I’m a pharmacist, voice actor, and podcast host…definitely a professional voice user!

Hi Kim, I am glad to hear that you are doing well. Regarding breath and running out of breath, we always have to look beyond the amount of breath we inhale. There are other things coming to place, like vocal folds closure (is there a slight gap that leaks a little bit of air?), big body muscles engagement (which allow the breathing and laryngeal muscles work more efficiently), exhalation muscles (that manage the airflow). People with MTD are known to start speaking at 40% of their lung capacity and go down to 10% (people without this diagnosis start speaking at about 60% of their lung capacity and take another breath at about 40%). So these are things that I would look at. I hope this helps.

Yess ma'am, the laryngologist told me my vocal chords were fine but I can still feel something else is there in my voice that is not normal and I'm am sick worried about it. I cry all the time nowadays. It's been going on for more than a month. I think I have this problem. I feel hopeless and disappointed. I used to sing very good but now when I sing even for a few minutes it pains but then comes back to normal and this happens again and again. The doctors are saying it's nothing. But i WANT A SOLUTION. I WANT TO SING AGAIN LIKE BEFORE !!!!!

Vocal pain is invisible to others so they cannot understand what you are going through and how it feels. Your pain is absolutely real! I recommend that you find a laryngologist who specializes in working with singers and voice professionals (you may need to travel to a bigger city or specialized centre outside of your city). Or you can find a voice therapist or singing voice specialist who can help you overcome your vocal pain. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Which exercises train you to perform good vocal closure (gentle) without the use of false cords and extrinsic muscles? Any examples of those?
@healthyvoicetips
@healthyvoicetips 5 ай бұрын
It can be any exercise. The important part is to focus on vocal effort. How can you do that exercise with less effort at the level of the vocal folds. What do you need to change to achieve that? Less air? Less pressure under the vocal folds? Different tongue or jaw position? Different alignment of head and neck? More muscle engagement in the body?

Hi. I’ve got the papilloma virus and have been suffering with vocal strain because of this. I’ve always thought it was the virus causing the problem with my horrendous vocal strain but although this was definitely the catalyst I’m now thinking I have MTD from watching your videos. Ive had my 3rd operation to burn off the virus but my voice is still tight and almost impossible to use. Therefore the issue must be that I’ve been straining my voice or muscles to try to talk while the virus was present and now my muscles are not being used correctly. Have you any advice. I’m booked into see my ent doctors in a few weeks post opp and I’m sure he will agree with the MTD. What exercises would you recommend etc. thanks in advance.

Ive been through all of this but still can't see any hope. It's just a mystery. Is there enough science about this going on? Why does it seems we know so little about the larynx?
@healthyvoicetips

Yes, there is more and more science for this. Of course, science does not know everything so the larynx is still an organ that we need to learn more about. Here is a link to a resource with a blueprint of how I help people with MTD: www.vocalfreedomsystem.com/blueprint See if you can spot some things that you have not tried or considered when dealing with MTD.

@@healthyvoicetips I did see an ENT and he said my vocal cords look great They were a little swelled up though. I do have acid reflux and I suspect that’s the cause of the swelling I’ve had it for 7 years and the PPIs have no effect currently. I am convinced my suspected MTD is a result of my GERD. I’m currently opting for surgical means to tackle the reflux as nothing is working anymore. I don’t know which surgical procedure would be best for a singer but I think the LINX procedure is the least invasive. Please assist on surgical means for acid reflux for singers.
