Definitely a highlight from my first trip to Washington D.C. was this place. I'm a huge museum guy, so this was like paradise to me.

I freaking LOVE the Smithsonian.... I just wish I could afford to go and see it for myself... I remember in 1976, the Smithsonian sent around the Freedom Train... I remember that Lincoln's hat, the ruby slippers, Howdy Doody and a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence among lots of other artifacts were in the traveling museum. Thanks much for going there, Jacob!

When I went to this museum a few years ago, I was amazed at how small people were, say 150 to 200 years ago. You can tell by the military uniforms that some of the men wore. Their bone structure was much smaller. Did you see the waists sizes on the clothing that was born back then? Crazy.

When I went to the Smithsonian American History Museum in 2004, they had the flag that was draped over the Pentagon on September 12, 2001 hanging on the wall as soon as you walked through the doors. It was high up so you had to look up to see it but it was chilling. You could see a tear or two and there was still soot and grease from the hands of the workers who'd carried it up to the roof and hung it there. Mesmerizing. Brought tears to my eyes. Curators and restoration personnel were also working on THE "Star Spangled Banner", the actual flag Francis Scott Key saw that inspired him to write our national anthem.

Unrelated, but my dream is to tour and film Baltimore's best and creepiest with you and Dan Bell. I admire what you both do so much, and I'm such a dweeb, so very far away...but yeah! It's one of those dreams that will never come true, but that fuels my passion to both spend a week-long vacation in Baltimore, tour the entire Route 66 on a Caravan, and spend at least 6 months living and breathing Texas, my all-time favorite place in the United Stated (of Amurica).

At 4:40 - 4:44 those puppets used to be animated and talked....my fiance spent the night there doing the voiceover for them....

I visited this museum in 1994 when I was in 8th grade and it was very interesting, one of my favorite places during the trip. I remember seeing some of these like Dorothy's ruby slippers and Archie Bunker's chair. At the time they had a carousel exhibit and one on the first ladies. Not sure if you went to the Natural History museum but that was great too. I'd love to check these museums out again!

This was very interesting! I hope there will come some more episodes from there. I have always dreamed about visiting that museum! Of what I can understand it is enormous. According to wikipedia it houses over 156 million objects! If you watched every item for only one second it would take about five years to see them all!

Loved this museum. Sadly, only had time to see a few of the exhibits. Wanted to make sure I saw the flag that inspired the Star Bangled Banner. Also saw the Ruby Slippers, & an amazing exhibit on the cost of war.

I went to the Smithsonian when I was 10 years and I was in a trance becuase ever since I was a kid I love history so much! Its so fascinating. The metal detector wasn't quackery. It was assembled by Alexander Graham Bell to find the bullet and would have done so successfully if Garfield's incompetent doctor hadn't insisted it was on the wrong side of Garfield's body.

Wonderful video! I went to the Smithsonian in 1986, shortly after they had acquired the set pieces from "All InThe Family" and one of the three pairs of "ruby" slippers used in "The Wizard Of Oz". I saw both of these and I was quite impressed, I must say! I also remember seeing Hoody Doody and Charlie McCarthy and Kermit the Frog! I loved all of it! Don't remember if I saw the Hope Diamond or not-I'd "hope" not! The cursed thing gives people a lot of bad luck, and certainly no "hope"! About that piece of "medical quackery" that was used on President Garfield-I wouldn't call it "quackery". That piece was one of the very first metal detectors, and this one was developed by Alexander Graham Bell to help doctors locate the bullet inside the President. It didn't work only because the President was laying on a bed filled with metal springs which made the gadget go haywire. The President died, not from the bullet wound itself but from the infection that set in later. Once Bell figured out what had gone wrong with the gadget it became invaluable to doctors of the time, helping them to save the lives of many other gunshot victims, up until the invention of X-rays around 1895.
