We are delighted to host the first event of the 2020/2021 Massey College Music Club this evening - Behind the Bellows: The twisted history of the accordion … and where it’s going, with Michael Bridge.
In less than 200 years since its invention, the accordion has become an icon of folk music from Finland to China to Brazil. Yet its history is chock-full of plot twists: the 1950s U.S. government ad campaign “Accordion Is Unpatriotic”; the business reasons behind the slightly embarrassing phenomenon of many great composers who wrote for the accordion only once; the story of the only German instrument manufacturer whose factory was not nationalized during WWII; and the stories go on.…
In a lighthearted evening, accordion virtuoso and doctoral candidate Michael Bridge will recount the unlikely history of the accordion, sprinkled with music from across centuries and borders, and explore the future of the instrument.
**To make this event as interactive as possible, we encourage viewers to submit their questions to Michael through the KZfaq chat function throughout the evening.

The Massey College Music Club meets after dinner, twice each term, to explore the creation and performance of music across different cultures and in different times.
Programming is decided by a committee of Junior and Senior Fellows, alumni, and Quadrangle Society members. It is eclectic and varied, and is intended to be both entertaining and enlightening. In particular, I'd like to acknowledge Dr. Helmi Harrington (World of Accordions Museum), Joseph Macerollo (University of Toronto), Leo Niemi, Jelena Milojevic, Claudio Jacomucci, Henry Doktorski, John Torcello, William Cosby, Beverley Fess, and Charles Cozens.

Hi Michael I found your documentary very interesting however I do have one comment the volume of orchestral sounds only on the treble side of the Bugati Evo can be controlled independently using an FC 300 foot controller connected to the Evo this also works with the Roland FR8X. I have played with this facility a few times with medium results as my skills are a bit limited controlling two volumes at the same time i.e. foot control and bellows
