When you go back through the lyrics it's so incredible. His use of a personified Uncle Sam character essentially being a Faustian devil luring and tempting Kendrick and other folks in similar positions and using that as a metaphor for the predatory nature of not just the record industry but the nation as a whole is just too good.

@FuccYew
@FuccYew 10 ай бұрын
This song starts off with Kendrick first blowing up and wanting to splurge and spend money with his friends then realizing that financial illiteracy is what has held back black people for so long. When he says “I’ll Wesley snipes yo ass before 35” he is speaking from the perspective of Uncle Sam. Wesley snipes got imprisoned for tax evasion that’s why it’s called Wesley’s theory. It’s a song that shows his growth in realizing that his people never learned how to maintain and keep thier new found wealth.
@sfbeht7n459
@sfbeht7n459 10 ай бұрын
no... kendrick isnt blaming Black people for being "financially illiterate." he's using Uncle Sam as a personification of capitalism, a system that encourages everyone to make and spend as much money as possible, and since capitalism is intertwined with white supremacy due to the context of its creation, Black people in america are encouraged to spend as much money as possible, without being granted the OPPORTUNITIES to make money. a Black person in america could have a masters degree worth of knowledge of finance, but if they have no money to begin with, then they can't use it to make any more. he perfectly uses wesley snipes as an example of this, because evading taxes is something all the richest people in america do, making it the "financially literate" thing to do. but when wesley does it he gets caught, because just like on the streets, the cops always watch what a Black person is doing 9 times harder than a white person. he is showing that "financial literacy" means nothing to a Black person because the system is rigged against them to begin with.
@sav2902
@sav2902 10 ай бұрын
@@sfbeht7n459 it's basically about america's racial profiling, which sometimes leads to institutional or systemic racism. because of black people's past, they have this sort of defense mechanism to buy more stuff to feel more "powerful," in control, or more accepted. "uncle sam" (symbolic idea of america's capitalism) knows this and targets the black audience to, of course, earn more profit. because of this thriving procedure, uncle sam often resorts to institutional racism, denying black people economic opportunities, education (including financial literacy), healthcare, etc., but offers them with ideas to spend more money that will eventually bite black people back in the future for uncle sam to gain more profit for himself. pretty important topic and i can suggest a few of kanye's songs (these are super good) that talk about racial profiling and systemic racism as well: never let me down and all falls down (racial profiling), spaceship and jesus walks (systemic/institutional racism)
@Test-vv4ex
@Test-vv4ex 2 ай бұрын
@@sfbeht7n459a pretty great analysis, but Weasley Snipes wasn’t really trying to be financially literate when he went to jail. Unlike how most corporations/rich rich people use “tax codes and other laws” to bypass paying taxes, Snipes simply refused to file his taxes at all. I say blame his advisor really, say what you want about “sovereign citizens” but if one agency isn’t to be messed with, it’s the IRS.

When he ends the song saying “tax be coming, tax be coming” it’s a nod to uncle Luke because he said “cap de comin cap de comin” in his biggest hit. First verse he’s talking from the perspective of a black man from the hood that’s finally gotten rich, The last verse he’s speaking as Uncle Sam reminding him that there’s a dark side to being financially illiterate.
