People mention how in sync the bass and drummer are but the thing that really impresses me outside of Tim's guitar playing is the drummer's use of "negative space" - all the places he rests really add dramatic effect.

@@SK23.they say it like Tim's guitar skills are the most obviously impressive thing about Polyphia's music....which is a correct thing to say imo. Polyphia has genius out the wazoo, and Tim's skills are only a part of it
@SK23.

@@ObnoxiousNinja99 you missed my point. im not denying tim's skills, what im saying is that hes not the only one writing or playing the parts in these songs. Scott writes a lot of their music. The big picture is that both of them are equally responsible for the impressive guitar work in the band, not just Tim.

Absolutely, O.D. is one of my favorites. G.O.A.T. is a lot of fun for the reaction videos, but structurally it feels more like a jam session where they are trading riffs and solos. Some of their others (like O.D.) are more structured songs.

Festivals, at Danish festivals they don`t get payed much so it`s mostly 3-4 big bands, and 30 unknown bands filling up the festival. 2020 and 2021 been bad years on that front. in 2019 I was the Denmark's biggest festival, and found this new Danish all girl Doom metal band (slow dark metal). The video is also from that festival, I assume it`s the biggest venue they played at, even tho it`s the smallest of 6 stages at the festival. If you like Polyphia, a band you might like to react to is Asterism. A young mostly instrumental prog/metal trio from Fukuoka, Japan. The guitarist HAL-CA (pronounced either hal-ka or Haruka, her real name) and bassist Miyu are probably my favourites in their respective instruments at the moment. The drummer Mio is also no slouch. They have been writing and performing their own music on stage since they formed when Haruka and Miyu were 12, Mio 14. Their first album 'Ignition' was produced by Bootsy Collins after he found them on facebook when they were 15, 16 and 18yrs respectivly, and included Buckethead as a guest on a couple of tracks. A good, gentle, introduction would be the track 'Church' off their latest album 'Guernica +A' kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ptGZfrZzvZ6ugHU.html Another great track is is 'Dawn', imho the best version is kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNuBg9l6s7DHcWQ.html despite the not perfect quality of the video you really get to see Haruka play, and her fantastic stage presence.

I was just gonna recommend Asterism, my favorite would be Gunfire, but i guess Church and especially Dawn would be a great first impression. They seriously are (skill-wise) a japanese polyphia. @@DrumRollTonyReacts I'll give you a mini-retrospective. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebB6naaks7WmfIk.html This is from their 2013 album and it's pretty firmly a instrumental metalcore/technical metal album. Straight-forward, but difficult to play, and they were all really young. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtxne9yrmc7VnWQ.html In 2016 they released Renaissance and that's when the transformation and exploration really started. They started implementing more pop ideas in their tech-prog-metal writing. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aM6coZSFtLe5imQ.html By their 2018 release, they have confidently developed their interesting pop-rock-metal-hip-hop fusion sound. This is the release with G.O.A.T., which is arguably their stand-out song on the album. From then-on, you are familiar with their sound. Hope this helps!

Regarding how many hours it took to perfect... In one of his interviews, Tim actually answered this question, sort of. He said that the most it took him to perfect a piece was 2 hours. It wasn't about GOAT specifically, it was just a general question, something along the lines of "how many hours does it take for you to master something after writing it?" 2 hours. Surprisingly ( or not ), GOAT is comparatively easy to play compared to their other stuff like OD and 40Oz.

The Prog Rock kings of the 21st century. 1:44 - "keyboard stuff"? Not sure but I think they just use 2 guitars, bass and drums.

The very first stuff we hear is what I was referring to. Very keyboard patch like. Has like a tubular bell sound to it. That's why I thought of crotales

@@DrumRollTonyReacts I didn't get the reference to crotales at the time and wondered about the reference to putting them in water but it makes sense now. Funny you reference tubular bells as there was some guitar work that reminded me of the 'fuzzy guitar' as Mike Oldfield calls it on the album Tubular Bells (which was the 1st album I ever bought, saving my pocket money for 3 weeks to buy the vinyl back in 1975!).

If you like this technicality of musicianship, you will love the band Animals As Leaders. They are instrumental. The drummer is God tier, the guitarists are God tier, I recommend the song "CAFO" I promise you will be mind blown!

I think CAFO is a bit too over the top. I usually recommend the brain dance or the woven web as and intro to animals as leaders. Gotta ease in in my opinion

other Polyphia personal recomendations by "genre": - (Jazzy) The Worst, Yas - (Jazzy-Funky) Saucy, Death Note (which features Ichika in a very particular, clever and tasty way), Drown (ft. a godly solo by the great Mateus Asato) - (Rock-Jazz) Ivory, Nightmare - (EDM-Rock-Jazz) LIT, 40oz By the way: This song name is correctly read as "Greatest Of All Time"

I'll honestly never ever understand how someone can "enjoy" a new song when they pause it every few seconds to talk about it...

I will NEVER understand why someone thinks I need to listen to music like they do? I have seen a ton of reaction channels that just sit there mouth breathing and be like "wow that's so good , see you in the next video" he'll nawww😅😅😅. Let's get into this shit. Rewind. Often. Hear what's going on. Guess patterns, identify shifts, progressions, admire technical aspects etc and so on. A straight forward listen is for normal people. That is not me. Zzzzz
