In honor of Blind Boy Fuller’s birthday, here are Music Maker artists John Dee Holeman, Boo Hanks, Jontavious Willis and Henry Byrd discussing his influence over a John Dee Holeman rendition of Fuller’s “Step It Up and Go.”
Born Fulton Allen in 1904, Blind Boy Fuller made a name for himself as a recording artists while based in Durham, NC. He played with other local musicians including Gary Davis, Bull City Red, Sonny Terry and Sonny Jones, the father of Music Maker Artist Guitar Gabriel. Fuller’s records influenced countless blues artists in his lifetime and after his untimely death in 1941.
