Loved your expression when Tim went profundo deep, he can go deeper and still keep his voice clear as a bell. Listening to Home Free is like coming home. No matter what genre they're signing, whether it's comedy, heart-breakingly serious or something in between, they make you feel wrapped up in that blanket of feel-good feelings. Thank you for the joy!

Tim isn't just a great bass, he also has an incredible range into the upper registers, I can't remember the song but he goes through the song with bass and up into tenor. All 6 (counting the first singer who left) are unquestionable masters at their craft, and they coordinate so well it's kind of scary. They deserve the praise they get.

That sound is Adam Rupp's patented "no-monica", i.e. a voiced harmonica. The opening sounds mimicking a Jaw harp are made by Adam Chance, aka Chance in this group to leave "Adam" for the original member.

Check out Love Train, Listen to the Music, When a Man loves a Woman, understand or any song in their vast catalog of great music. Never heard a bad song from these guys! The Mouth Harp sound you commented on was being done by Adam "Chance". Adam Rupp is a Worldclass Beatboxer, but they all can do some beatboxing and Rob Lundquist is an extraordinary whistler as well when the song calls for it.
@Xendrasch
@Xendrasch Жыл бұрын
@@gk5891 The "nomonica" is indeed done by the beatboxer, Adam Rupp. It is a harmonica sound made without a harmonica. Probably you are talking about the jaw harp sound, that is also heard at the beginning of the video, before the singing starts. This is indeed made by Adam Chance. I guess, the confusion comes from the fact, that the term "Mouth Harp" is sometimes used for two different instruments, that are both imitated in this performance: The Harmonica (Adam Rupp) and the Jaw Harp (Adam Chance).
@gk5891
@gk5891 Жыл бұрын
@fsboss I was indeed referring to the instrument also known as the Jaw Harp as opposed to the Harmonica. The name I grew up using is no longer considered politically correct and I didn't want to offend anyone. In retrospect I can see how "you" was a poor choice of wording. I had intended it for the reactor as a point of additional information, not a correction of the original poster.

This song blew me away when I first heard it & I was completely hooked. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.

The sound you are referring to is often called a mouth harp, I was brought up calling it a Jew's harp. The person whose name you don't know is making the noise in his throat, and his name is Adam Chance, called Chance so not to mix him up with Adam Rupp. Great reaction.

"One big whole vocal". Perfect explanation. They use layering. Live, Adam uses a looper on SOME arraignments (like this one). Chance was doing the sound at the beginning and end but, I believe, he has said it hurts to keep it up so Adam samples it live and then loops it. His drum beat also needs sampling so he can do the no-monica. Then again, live, Austin does some no-monica work as well.

This song is a cover, it's probably best known recently from the soundtrack of the 2000 film "O Brother Where Art Thou" but the song has been around a long time. IMO it's one of Home Free's best. And as others have said already, that unusual twang you hear more prominently at the beginning and end is an impression of a jaw harp done by Adam Chance, the one guy you didn't recognize from the video. Best wishes with your channel.

You had me laughing about Tim. Yeah he does that to us ladies too. Unfortunately during Covid Tim couldn’t get to the hairdresser and gray hair was coming in and he didn’t want long gray hair so he cut his hair short and let the gray show. I’m ok with it but I loved his long hair. Now Austin (redhead) has really long hair right now. Rob has the glasses. Adam is the beatboxer. Chance is the new guy. He took over for Chris Rupp, Adam’s brother, who quit the band in 2016 to go solo and Chance took his place. Chance is wonderful. They all are and yes Adam Rupp is a freak of nature! Good reaction. Home Free is incredible. Everything they do is great. And although they are a Country A-cappela group, they can really sing all genres. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others. Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist. Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible. Austin Brown-High tenor with his great runs and high notes. Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet and so much soul. Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound. There is no lead singer in Home Free. They look at every song whose voice suits it best, the best harmony, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). .. This is one of the many covers they do in addition to various originals, and each one is just amazing. Take the time to discover Home Free because it will be a great tour. For me they are number 1 A-Cappella group I'm a Home Fry from the Netherlands.

Welcome to the Home Free rabbithole. As you become better acquainted with the vocal abilities of each of the guys you'll note how unique they are. They are so skilled at balancing out their harmonies what you hear can be deceiving. Might want to check out their version of 'Helplessly Hoping.' At times, their voices and breathing are so in sync it's difficult to tell how many are singing, if you're not watching. Adam also adds his sweet tenor in this for the 5-part harmony. You've experienced Tim at his lower end. During their recent Holiday tour, Austin missed a few performances due to illness, and Tim filled in for some of his parts. They are all not only talented but very versatile. You've surely received numerous recommendations for additional HF vids. If there's a particular type of song, genre, lead vocal, etc you'd like to see from these guys, just ask. We'll try to cater suggestions accordingly.

Home Free is the best--period. It's easy to forget they are completely acapella and make all "instrumental" sounds themselves. In this song they are making a distinct southern (country blues) presentation--it definitely fits the lyrics of the song. Chance doing the jaw harp sound really sets the stage for this song's story, which Austin's twang fits phenomenally. Tim's bass line completely grounds the harmonies and Adam's voice percussion simply cannot be beat. This performance highlights a lot of Home Free's strengths although they also handle ANY other genre just as amazingly❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Some of my favorites are "Working for a Living", "Good 'Ol Country Harmony", "Land of the Free", "Remember This", "Elvira" (with the Oak Ridge Boys), "Undivided", "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up" (which is not on YT--it's on their official Facebook page), "Listen to the Music", "What's Left of My Heart", "Understand", and "Road Sweet Road" 😍!

If you want to see more of Adam's abilities, you ought to see his drum solo video. Also the Christmas carol, Do You Hear What I Hear, shows a wide spectrum of his sound effects. Adam also did the arrangement. Other songs displaying his talents Listen to the Music and Ain't Going Home Until the Sun Goes Down. Adam also sings tenor when he's not beat boxing. Songs featuring Robb are End of the Road and Blue Ain't Your Color. He also sings the operatic aria, Nessum Dorma, with Austin. Songs featuring Adam Chance are Brother, Some Girls Do, snd Castle on the Hill,. Austin is featured in When a Man Loves a Woman and Listen to the Music. Tim has a five octave range. He has an album, Pieces of Me, which is do wah with him singing all the parts . He can sing all the parts of those old classics that were sung by a whole group.. Tim and Austin sing My Maria where Tim sings the higher part instead of Austin. Tim is known to have blown quite a few speakers in live performances with his bass.. Concert goers say they can feel his bass go through them even at the back of the auditorium. There is no lead singer in Home Free. The person leads who is best suited for the song. In terms of their harmonies, you haven't heard anything yet. Try Hopelessly, Hoping , Brothers in Arms, How Great Thou Art.

The song was originally written in the early 1900s and later covered by loads of people, including Bob Dylan. I never saw the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" but the Soggy Bottom Boys sang it in that movie. It's so easy to forget that it's entirely acapella. The lead singer on this (Austin Brown) is from Georgia; the bass (Tim Foust) is from Texas; the man in the back is from Alabama. The remaining band members - the beatboxer (Adam Rupp) and lead tenor (beard and glasses) are both from Minnesota. I'd highly recommend watching "When A Man Loves A Woman" next. And...another one falls down the rabbit hole. You are so fucking doomed. We'll save you a chair. You're about to be buried in Home Fries. Home Free is the only country a capella group out there, but they can - and do - sing every genre. And they have no lead singer. Every one of these men can take the lead, and they pick the lead for each song by who does it the most justice. During quarantine, they kept all us Home Fries sane by dropping new videos every couple of weeks. God bless ‘em. All the men can beat box, but Adam is in a league of his own. He's a world-class vocal percussionist and there're good reasons he's called a "Freak of Nature" and “the man who swallowed a drum kit.” For more of Adam's incredible beat boxing, check out Sea Shanty medley (the man makes castanets, for Pete's sake), his no-monica solo on Working For A Living and Ain't Going Down Til The Sun Comes Up (that video is on Facebook), and his drum solos. For more of Tim's seismic basso profundo, listen to Brothers In Arms, Misty Mountains (his collaboration with Peter Hollens), Folsom Prison Blues, or Ring Of Fire (the Sing Off version). For Chance's smooth baritone, check out Down to the Honky Tonk, Brothers In Arms, and Folsom Prison Blues. (Awesome.. basso profundo and a baritone/bass in the same group.) FYI, Chance is singing (throat singing) the jaw harp sounds - without the jaw harp - in Man Of Constant Sorrow. For Rob's soulful tenor, check out End of the Road, Blue Ain't Your Color, or Bless The Broken Road. (Blue-eyed soul is in good hands with The Beard.) For Austin's soaring power tenor, check out Crazy, Moonshine, When A Man Loves a Woman, or Bring Him Home. (But bolt down your chair ‘cause he'll sing you right out of it.) For their humor, check out Butts Remix, Working For A Living, Between A Rock And A Heartache, Make You Feel My Love, Brother, and Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget. For their amazing arrangement skills, check out Do You Hear What I Hear. (Adam's arrangement. Nothing else like it.) For their tight harmonies, check out Helplessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art, Brothers In Arms, or Auld Lang Syne. For their mashups, check out Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On, Fishing in the Dark/Boondocks, Country Fried Pop, or Woman, Amen/Female. For more of their wonderful collaborations, check out God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood, American Pie with Don McLean, Elvira with The Oak Ridge Boys, Children Go Where I Send Thee with the late Kenny Rogers, Don’t Laugh At Me with Mark Wills, Christmas In Dixie with Alabama, or Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For with Peter Hollens. Get at least five videos under your belt and then listen to Mayday - the official video. After Mayday, you'll be ready for Tim and Austin doing My Maria or Tim's mashup of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay. Then, when you come up for air, check out Rob and Austin singing Nessun Dorma. You'll need smelling salts after that one. Don't miss their official videos. The Home Free men will often do a straight, gorgeous vocal performance, but they'll add elements of humor to the video that will leave you chuckling or even laughing out loud. (Folsom Prison Blues, Between A Rock And A Heartache, Make You Feel My Love, Working For A Living, Brother). Their synergy is phenomenal. Each is an artist in his own right, but man - when they sing together, magic happens. Wicked talent polished by decades of hard work. (Unchained Melody, Castle On The Hill, Seven Bridges Road) To paraphrase another Home Fry, “They don't just own a cover, they upgrade it.” You are doomed, Home Fry. Bring ketchup.

The song was first written down in 1913, but is much older than that. You may remember it from the movie "O Brother, where art thou."

This song originally came out in the early 1900's but was made well known in the movie "O Brother where art thou" with George Clooney. The last one is Adam Chance whom simply goes by Chance. Adam Rupp and his brother Chris originally put the group together but Chris moved on and Chance came in. Chance is the one who does the jaw harp. Chance can also do baritone but not quite as low as Tim.

You'll see Adam Rupp's brother Chris in their early songs (Ring of Fire, Do You Hear What I Hear, Country Fried Pop). The brothers Rupp started the group, then Chris left to do his own thing and Chance (back left doing the voice harp) came in. Chance adds the beautiful Baritone to the group they needed to balance their sound.

The guy you were missing is Adam Chance, called Chance to save confusion. the original guy was Chris Rupp, Adam's brother, they started the band back in college. After a few line up changes, they got Tim and Rob and Austin stalked them on a cruise ship when singing with another group until they took him on. With Chris, they won the sing off series the year after Pentatonix, the same year that Voiceplay were on too. The song is a very old one, it was used in the movie, O Brother, Where art Thou.

Adam Chance is the "new guy" who goes by Chance to avoid any confusion of the two Adams. He was making the noise at the beginning that made the sound of a Jaw Harp. He is also a bass and sings the low parts when Tim sings the higher parts.

When you listen to it again pay attention to Tim's part immediately after his solo -- he drops almost an octave below his solo in the bass part immediately following.

Re Tim's locks: he cut them off a couple of years ago, and let it go silver. If anything, he looks even better. (He's 43 or 44, I believe, oldest of the group.) Re the song: people often know it from the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou" with George Clooney, but the composer is unknown. It was first recorded around 1913.

Chance (Adam Chance) is the baritone in the dark vest. He covers bass when Tim goes on a lead and he did the jaw harp sound using something like harmonic overtone (a.k.a. Tibetan Throat) singing. I think he did a short section and then they looped it throughout the song on a separate layer. It's apparently hard on the voice for long periods.

Home Free was first formed in 2000-2001, Chris Rupp, Adam Rupp, and Matt Atwood were the founders. Since Adam didn't have formal vocal training (his music degree and specialty was trumpet), he decided to learn to beatbox. He taught himself with videos and by learning from other beatboxers to develop his own sound. You should really look up some of his solos, he does one every show so there is a lot to choose from on KZfaq. Start with an early one (the 2015 one is very popular), then look up a more recent one to see how he has improved and added so much more to his solos.

What you hear at the start and the end of the song, is the sound of an Australian digeridoo. The indigenous people use that. Look it up to see how they make it. Ever see Crocodile Dundee? ANY musical instrument you hear is done mostly by the beatboxer, but also others in the group. To see the digeridoo sound guy, he's leaning against a porch post as the song ends. Very subtle.

Don't let Tim fool you he is an amazing bass but he has a 5 octive range. He can sing very high also. Adam has won many awards. Austin can go extremely high. Rob can also rap plus just has beautiful tone. Chance is a baritone but he has a good range too.

The group was started by Adam Rupp, his brother Chris, and one other gentleman. The first few albums featured Chris Rupp as the 5th member, but he left to do some solo stuff and other projects. The gentleman who took his place was Adam Chance (goes by chance). He is the one in the back left. He is a baritone, but can do some crazy bass and covers for Tim when he is singing leads, and he also has a great lead voice as well. If you wanna see Chance lead, listen to "Some Girls Do". Hope that helps.

If you are in the mood for beautiful 5 part harmony but hear more of Chance (the guy doing the overtones in this one) check out Helplessly Hoping. If you want to hear Rob at his best, he and Austin did Nessun Dorma. You won't ever see Rob the same after hearing him belt out those rich tenor operatic notes. Austin also does great as always with a crossover style, but Rob... Yeah... that good!
