She said before in an interview that she thinks she can't sing jazz music but what's this? I think she is the only artist here in ph that i know who can sing almost all genres of music. She's very versatile. Very talented, she almost have all the vocal techniques, she's very humble and down to earth that's why i love her. Btw, she also have live performances singing "spain" with his mentor gary valenciano which they did scatting and she also have a raw video singing "dont you worry bout a thing" in her room while baby sitting. Mike Shapiro, her boyfriend, is a well known drummer in the US, he used to drum for Sergio Mendez, he made the arrangement for this. Filipino singers can adopt to any song and any language. Katrina is just one of those who are great in any song they sing. She is truly talemted.

Katrina Velarde is initially known as "Suklay Diva", the word "Suklay" means comb and "Diva" is excellent singer. She came up first by uploading a video of her singing using a "Suklay" or comb as a mic and then she gets a lot of attention, and opened a lot of opportunities for her. Which is great! 🤗💚 btw, her first life story interview was in Rated-K (Rated Korina is a Philippine television news magazine show, hosted by Korina Sanchez.)

Most Filipinos have Spanish last names since PH was colonized by Spain for 300 years. Kinda sure Katrina is Filipino. 😉

Kat’s life story is reminiscent of those other singers who were born poor and rose to fame on the wings of their golden voice. Before she won in Tawag ng Tanghalan and metamorphosed into a Superstar, Nora Aunor sold water in the train station in Iriga City, Camarines Sur. Regine Velasquez came from want and determined to chase her dream by joining singing contests in the neighborhood and bringing home canned goods as prizes. Accompanied by her mom, Kyline Alcantara had to borrow money for bus fare from Bicol to Manila, wishing upon a star and undaunted by the cruelty of the big city where, unable to pay the rent one time, they passed the night on the street with their meager belongings thrown out by the heartless landlord (if he could only see Kyline now!). The Velardes lived in a small barung-barong (hut) over a canal at the farthest end of a street at a squatters’ area in Tondo, Manila, so small that they slept sardines-like. “My father (Joseph Velarde from Pampang) is a carpenter so he built a divider,” said Kat unapologetically. “I would help my mother (Lilia Coquino from Oas, Albay) string together sampaguita as garlands, taga-tuhog kami ng sampaguita, and the dealer would collect the finished garlands every day. From the earnings, we would buy two packs of Lucky Me noodles and boil them with lots of water to accommodate all of us…my parents and us five siblings (the eldest would succumb to cancer).” At age 5, Kat began singing mostly Aegis songs such as Luha, Halik and Munting Pangarap which was the piece she sang at the first barangay singing contest she competed in when she turned 6.

I super enjoy watching Philip’s moves even when watching ballads, makes me move too hahaha! Roma is so lovely, vibrant and bubbly and cheerful beautiful vibe! Why not get her as your co-reactor. Yes, Filipinos have Latin blood what with being under Spanish rule for 333 years. Filipino race is mixed for even our aborigines, Malays, Indones and Aetas came from outside! Even me my last name is spanish i'm a Filipino. Katrina probably has a spanish blood running to her vein. Hence the Philippines colonized by the Spaniards for over 300 plus years. Moreover, Katrina immerse herself into performer, Dealing with different kinds of bands here in the Philippines. Up to this day she is performing anywhere there's an event and music business around the country. There's no particular reason why she covered these Latin medley. its was just pure love of the music regardless of genre and style.
