Yes, Sohyang is beyond good. She is an angel and pulls emotions out of you that you didn’t even know you had. That is her God given talent. She has been blessed.

One of my favourite performances even though she was recovering from pneumonia and it was almost her goodbye song as she had thought of giving up singing due to her continued fight with illness. She disappeared for some months after this but came back strongly in 2020.

The arrangement is a masterpiece (hers with her team), her vocals are stunning, AND more remarkable, she performed this whilst recovering from pneumonia. She is a once in a generation vocalist. There are so many more mind-blowing performances. Look forward to the next one.

Tyler, no matter what Sohyang sings, she injects life into you. She is the most extraordinary woman I know of. The guy in the video was Shane Filan of the Irish group Westlife. The television program was a tribute to him and his band, and every performer that night sang one of their hits. Westlife had a monster hit in the UK with "You Raise Me Up," thus Sohyang sang this in tribute to him. Shane told Sohyang that after hearing her version "the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up" and it was "amazing" and "outstanding!" Not hard to see why, eh? The music for the song "You Raise Me Up" was originally written by a Norwegian group called Secret Garden, while the lyrics were written by an Irishman named Brendan Graham. Mr. Graham saw Sohyang's performance and was absolutely thrilled by her rearrangement of the music and rendition, so he had the Irish embassy in Seoul get in contact with Sohyang to let her know that he felt her version was the best ever. Sohyang had to really pull back on concerts after this appearance, and thought it might actually be the last one of her singing career due to the serious pneumonia. Thus the Irish embassy had a difficult time finding Sohyang but they did finally get a hold of her and delivered Mr. Graham's message. Sohyang was named by her grandmother, whom she believes God inspired with the name even though neither her parents nor grandmother were Christians. Her name means "enjoy the light" as people have correctly informed me. Sohyang's favourite movie star is Brad Pitt. Like "duh," eh? What woman doesn't love Brad Pitt? Ha, ha! 😎 Sohyang is a 100% self-taught singer except for a handful of sessions with Seth Riggs, which she didn't talk about in the interview I learned this from, so I think she had her Seth Riggs lessons after 2009 when this interview was recorded. She said she spent time with one of the producers of Boyz II Men while on vacation in California and learned either vocal technique or audio recording technique or both because he had a home recording studio. When she watches movies she doesn't take her hubby along because she wants to concentrate on the film without anyone interrupting or talking to her. Sorry hubby, but you can be so distracting and annoying at the movies! 😝 Sohyang likes action movies! She carries her Bible with her most places. It is an English New International Version and she tries to read five chapters a day, because it helps her stay fresh on her English. Oh yes, Sohyang wanted to be involved in musicals on stage but was offered the role of Carmen, which she turned down because Carmen was a prostitute. It sounded like she was offered prostitute roles repeatedly, so she more or less gave up on anything operatic. Though, of course, she did appear in "The Sound of Music." She is just one of those naturally wholesome women, and I think that is one of the reasons we like her. 😇❤ Sohyang is also analytic to the nth degree! She will listen to a song she likes over and over until she is satisfied she knows it inside out. The bass line, the drums, the vocals. She keeps going until she has almost worn out the recording. Well, she didn't say that last part but it is pretty obvious that she knows her music and when she decides to cover a song, she is going to cover it like it has never been covered before! As a long time Sohyang fan, although still an amazing performance, I don’t think she is at her best here, which is hardly surprising because she was ill in this performance, struggling with the after effects of het latest bout of pneumonia. Anyone we ho has seen het a lot will probably agree that she looks tired and like she has lost weight in her face. She was advised by doctor not to perform but she didn’t want to disappoint the people that had come to see het sing, typical of Sohyang to think of others.

Sohyang always arranges her song with her team or herself. She is not just a good singer. I agree with you. She is kinda genius.

I recommend your reaction to Sohyang's recent song "Upon this rock". Everyone thought she was too old to sing it now because she hasn't sung it officially since 2014, but 8 years later, last year, she sang a lot of songs at her concert and then sang it as her last encore, proving she's still the best singer. The video is the sound quality of the fan cam version, but you can definitely hear her outstanding vocal skills. It will be fun to listen to it compared to the 2014 version.
