Yes, my friend, this is but the tip of the iceberg. Or, maybe more accurately; a snowball on the tip of the iceberg. You correctly noticed Diana's insane range and singing skills. But, more important was the mention of her unsurpassed ability to deliver emotional impact to the listener. And this is an eighteen year old girl, here. It's astounding. Please do follow the suggestions and review the fourteen year old Diana performing the song "Rechenka". She might not have displayed the vocal range that she does here, but a book could be written about all of the different techniques that she employs. Beyond that, the performance is a true work of art.

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. Diana's voice (shockingly unique), is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never seen another performer that crushes virtually every mode of expression like she does. What I like most about Diana is how she overcame a rather tough start to life. Her birth mother was physically abusive and finally abandoned her in the street, in the middle of winter, at the age of 3. She ended up in an orphanage and would eventually suffer from nightmares, a nervous breakdown, and lingering speech problems. Her adoptive mother started Diana on singing lessons as one method of hopefully improving her verbal abilities. Despite all that she is now, by all accounts, a remarkably intelligent, poised, and humble young lady. To me, she is bravery, perseverance, and soul power personified. I get emotional just watching her, knowing how far she has come, never mind the otherworldly voice. By far, my favorite singer in the world. And yeah, her tessitura is crazy for a contralto but it’s that thunderous, rich, dark, resonant timbre that stands out for me. She’s a witch, enchantress, siren, sorceress... they all apply. I wish her all the best in this world. The gentleman who stood up is the well known Azerbaijani opera singer Yusif Eyvanov. He is married to the world class Russian soprano Anna Netrebko. Together they are opera royalty. Presumably, he would not be easy to impress. Both he and other members of the jury remarked at the amount of pure energy Diana was emitting. Yusif said he’s never felt anything like it in his life.

The show has an interesting premise. The performers are also the judges, so all the people you saw were her peers. This was the first show of the competition and I'm guessing, by their reactions, that many had not heard Diana sing before. If you can find video of the all of the shows, they are well worth watching. The level of talent was excellent and it was all highly entertaining.
