The reason that they use their music to teach military history is because the lead singer used to work as a history teacher and the lead guitarist is a former member of the Swedish military.

Sweden had conscription for many years (helps if a neutral country has a strong enough army to act as a deterrent) so it would be unsurprising to hear several members served, albeit briefly.

Great reaction and wonderful analysis. You pointed out things I have never heard before, making me appreciate this song even more. I enjoy bands that actually tell tales with their songs, and don't just throw together fluff lyrics to lay over the music or bands that actually write good lyrics but use the song as an excuse to endlessly shred. As an aside, the Swiss pikemen were renowned throughout Europe as ferocious and tough warriors and served as guards for numerous royal families. I would also like to add there is another band whose themes are historically accurate tales of war; Civil War was formed by three ex-Sabaton members who left amiably since they wanted to tour less. Keep rocking.

Adding a month later: Sabaton are masters in setting a 'feel' or 'vibe' for a song. Bismarck had the strength and power of the battleship. This song has that 'holy' vibe, which makes sense. Defense of Moscow has its own, for another example.

It is one of my favorit songs of sabaton, it has such an awesome structure and such an emotional drive, and it also conveys the message of the vocals in the music. I really love the idea of conveiing historic events through songs. I have been listening to sabaton for about 16 month now and have seen many of their Sabaton-History videos and such a lot of that informations keeps stuck in my mind through the combination of the great music and knowing what it is about. Amazing concept. Please check out their newest song "2016" released last week. It is a cover of a Motörhead song but Sabaton gives it their own spin, it is amazing and since Lemy wrote it as a tribute to the fallen soldiers it fit's perfectly to Sabaton.

Nice reaction! You certainly spotted musical ideas I hadn't really noticed myself. It's always fun to learn *why* a song that works for you works for you. And the storytelling aspect also shifts the emphasis a bit, because the song and the vocals are only a vessel - Joakim does not do much vocal trickery, but he is incredibly good at punching singing that delivers Every. Last. Phonetic. with precision.

I think it is fair to say that most of metal lyrics is about storytelling in one way or another. Maybe you can translate from bookwriting "show" do not "tell", "normal" popular music is telling (e.g. "I love you baby") and metal shows (e.g. "Angles come down tonight, There’s no longer a distance, Between heaven and my life, To the light they guide me" instead of "I am dying" or "I’ve tried to reach you, to find back home I’m faithful to my vow, All these years are dead and gone I don’t want to end this now, I close my eyes, to see your face, Divided hearts embraced, Here I stand alone And waiting for your love")

Glad to see you back with Sabaton. A song that is seldom reacted to is Smoking Snakes, about Brasilian soldiers fighting alongside the allied forces in invading Italy and driving out the Germans during WWII. I remember during your reaction to Bismarck about you talked of transposing the music into a marsch. Smoking Snakes has with pride been taken up as a marsch by the Brasilian army musical corps. Give it a listen!

Very deep and technical reaction, as a musician I really appreciate that. This is one of the songs that made me know SabatoN. The other one is Pasadena 1994 from NanowaR of Steel with Joakim Broden. On the other side I did a lot of medieval reenactment in the past, so I really appreciate what they did also in an historical perspective. Thank you for the reaction. I’ve learned something, an that’s good.

Sabaton's a good power metal band, yes, but there's lots of those. Sabaton does history, and they do it well. My personal favorites are Bismarck, Christmas Truce, and this one. Newest is 1916, a cover of a Motorhead song. Also, the well-enunciated sing ing is no accident. If you're going to tell stories, people need to hear the words!! I've seen them live twice now, and they're worth seeing, imo.

Sabaton also has an award winning history channel here on KZfaq that gives background to over 100 if their songs. Sabaton videos are often have dedictions and/or messages at the end, perhaps not always but, watching to the very end is frequently well worth it. Animated STORY videos (short history lessons with music videos in them) No bullets fly Night witches Lady of the dark Red baron epic videos. Bismark, about the sinking of the ship Defence of Moscow, self explained. Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce in some parts of the western front during Christmas 1914 40:1, about polish soldiers, badly outnumbered (just under 750 in all) facing 42 000 germans, they where BADLY outgunned desperately defending against the German invasion 1939 Uprising, the Warsaw Uprising against the nazi germans during 1944. To hell and back, they tell the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face. Fields of verdun, the 300+ day long battle fought there. Price of a mile, about the battle of Passchendaele Screaming Eagles, about the battle of the bulge Live performances 40:1 from poland Uprising from poland En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) , very heavy again, about thoughts of a young man going to war. these are just some, there are plenty more.

Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes and sings about Actual historic events, battles, moments of heroism and wars, but hey don't glorify war whatsoever. They released their 10th studio album earlier this year. Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's KZfaq safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken) If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these: (These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use) [live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising [Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling [Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, The Final Solution, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama, Cliffs Of Gallipolli and The lost betallion [Music Video's]: Bismarck, Christmas Truce, Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising, The Future Of Warfare (Building Blocks Video) & Seven Pillars of wisdom [Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's) [Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video] and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.

Amazing song!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ SHORT FACTS: The outnumbered Swiss Guards, protectors of the Vatican, stood against an invading horde during the sack of Rome in 1527, Giving their lives so the Pope could escape... The song is based on the perspective of those people,. & how driven & Loyal they were to their faith in order to sacrifice their lives... -It's very Deep🤍 The band itself is not a christian band.^^

Hello. What is a run? What is a riff? What would be the technical term for the voice of the lead singer. Thanks
@ShawkaReacts
@ShawkaReacts 7 ай бұрын
A run is a fast series of notes, usually a portion of a scale. A riff is a melodic or harmonic sequence; typically it is repeated. The most common term for the lead singer is exactly that, the lead singer/vocalist.
