This is exactly how my music theory teacher in MUS 101 taught ear training intervals as well. Use what works. This works by using stuff that's burned into your brain already... :-) GOOD STUFF. My teacher would use the beginning of "Maria" from West side story to describe that weird interval and I've heard a million examples since but he picked one that pretty much every one has heard, even now and that was like 30 years ago.

Hi Shred, Greetings from New Zealand! I've only recently discovered you on your Steve Vai Hydra video and your content is excellent! Your passion for music and the guitar is refreshing and exciting. I'm self taught and have been playing guitar for 30 years and bass for 20 years. In the last 10 years I've refined the true essence of composing the music I hear in my head and have now amassed an extensive and mind bending back catalogue (find me under my ARJAYEM banner), BUT - your content and music theory videos have finally made me want to get into the nuts and bolts of music theory! Keep up the amazing work, Shred, I'll certainly be taking on some of your courses now those long winter nights will be descending on NZ!

Love your work! Why is it that anyone who teaches this theory of death, opps I mean fifths, uses a piano to illustrate the scale instead of a guitar to illustrate the scale pattern? A piano is a straight line. A guitar is notes across different strings and finger positions. I am a WAP of public schooling and can’t think for myself ✌️😎🍻

It'll be the same old SHIET if i was playing C MAJOR/Amin Im might play the D maj7....C dim into C# min It'll make a difference..when you notate it.. You either see the # symbol before the B note or NATURAL symbol before the C note It'll also happen if you play F# Harmonic min..ect some people say...E# loc b4 or E# loc b4, bb7... For beginners...it's a CLUSTER FU$KAROO why NOT just call it F loc b4 or F loc b4, bb7 ??? they usually FU$K Up...when notating in other keys... when you apply different scales...and Most people DO NOT learn the different scales...such as the Harmonic MAJOR In E MAJOR...it would be b6. Then A maj7....D Maj7.....E Maj7......A Maj7 lmao Im in E MAJOR...not A Maj/F# Minor why did I pick C# min/E MAJOR ????? well....some people say it's B# loc b4....B# loc b4, bb7 and ARGUE about it....lmao If you play C# harmonic min or C# melodic min Im cool....I could say I played C Lyd aug #2 ( C, #2, #4, 6)....Shill the fu$k out PEOPLE..lmao There;s a difference if you play A lyd #2, Vrs A lyd b3.. If you havnt learn the Harmonic MAJOR....you would always NOTATE it incorrectly. from C MAJOR./Amin......the enharmonic of G# loc b4, bb7 verse play G mix b2....Ab lyd aug #2
