Raffle Quilts, Winter 2016
HERE THEY COME!! NHGMC Raffle Quilts for Winter 2016. I am honored that I was invited again to be the designer and creator of the winter 2016 raffle quilts for the NH Gay Men's Chorus. I started this madness MANY years ago. Little did I know then that it would become a tradition that continues to this day. At the conclusion of this concert season I will have created 65 quilts for my brothers in song. I also sing 2nd Tenor with these amazing men. Rehearsal nights (Every Tuesday) are ALWAYS the highlight of my week. Join us for an unforgettable concert season. (spoiler alert - I made more than quilts this year - just sayin) It's worth double what you pay and it's something your entire family will enjoy from toddler to senior.

were more along the lines of decor. They needed to be displayed. But quilting is about love, comfort and warmth. This is what I wanted these quilts to be. I wanted them to be used. Wrapped around someone reading a book, watching TV or sleeping. This concert season gave me that opportunity.
The name of the concert was the inspiration. Warming the heart brings to mind hearth and home. Quilting might be an art form today but not so long ago it was a necessity of life. Everything had to be used. Mothers surviving in the frontier didn't have fabric stores to visit. BUT, they did get dry goods in cloth bags. They cut up those bags and made them into blankets. When a quilt became to warn to use, it became the batting of the next quilt.
The log cabin block represents hearth and home. Like a log cabin being built by staking logs on each other. Strips of fabric stacked in a spiral design gave an eye pleasing affect. The center of the block was always a cube and it was usually red, if the quilter could get her hands on red. It represented the hearth of a home which was the heart of the family.
To the winner of these quilts. I hope your evening with men of the chorus and our amazing support staff are one of the things you think about every time you pick it up and wrap yourself in it's warmth.
