Agreed.... they're extremely versatile. Their ability to criss-cross through (and sometimes combine) multiple genres, tempos, and grooves is bringing back the love of Rock in a huge way. I was there during the rise and evolution of Led Zeppelin.... Band Maid is recreating that magic all over again. Who would have ever guessed that five young Japanese ladies would save Rock n Roll??

@@FrankieBag0donuts I'm in my 70's and go back to the late 50's and the beginning of rock and roll and its evolution through the decades. These ladies are a throwback to that time and are the finest hard rock group on the planet. Japan leads the league in female bands and they are all excellent. Doll$Box, Aldious, SCANDAL ( the veterans of Japanese rock and roll), Marys Blood, Show-Ya, LoveBites, Fate Gear and quite a few others. One relatively new group is Girlfriend that has the makings of another chart topper group. Music in the US is deplorable and we have to go outside the country to find good music. Right now Asia, and Japan in particular have literally fountains of talent, thank God.

Kanami (Lead Guitarist/Songwriter/Arranger) writes many of her songs in piano first and often speeds it up for a band arrangement. Piano was her first instrument that she learned from a very young age and got into guitar during highschool. Btw she looks upto Carlos Santana as a guitarist.

Funny, when other reactors listen to Band-Maid, they tend to point out different genres or different decades they hear throughout any given song. You point out different bands, which is cool. It just goes to show how B-M changes things up in any given song so it's always fresh. There will be times when the bassist is playing funk, the drummer is playing punk, the rhythm guitarist is playing rock, the singer is singing pop and the lead guitarist is playing metal. But it all works so well. One fantastic example, I think, is their song, "Different". But really, you can't go wrong with any Band-Maid video (or live video). And they keep getting better. Their new album is so progressive. No official videos for "Giovanni", "No God" and "Black Hole", but they're incredible (and they're on KZfaq).

Thanks for reacting, formed in 2013 by Rhythn Guitarist and vocalist Miku Kobato. Seven Major releases so far three mini albums and four full albums with the last released Digitally on the 13th January this year With a Physical release on the 20th January. The idea behind the band is the contrast between the visuals and then the sound and also the sound and the lyrics. Members (ages between 24 to 30) Akane Hirose ;- Drums (A-chan. the beast,Gorilla) Saiki Atsume :- Vocals (Sai-chan) MISA :- Bass :- (the Assasin. Misa, Misa, Misa) Kanami Tono :- Guitars (Mincho, main songwriter) Miku Kobato :- Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Lyricist (Small Pigeon, wide shoulders, strong grip, Karuppo) Kobato in Japanese can be interpreted as small pigeon and Miku never met a pun she didn't like or a chance to mess with peoples heads Po!!. Also they have a slightly twisted sense of humour, for example the single Alone was released on Valentines day, and for the last two years on April fools day they rename themselves, the bands social media as Band Maiko where they dress as apprentice geisha's and release a video of a song written in the geisha dialect with some traditional instruments in it. Relentless live band due to having played basically anywhere they could plug in they also tend to add extra parts to the songs live , The costumes might have got their foot in the door but they have earned what they have gotten the old fashioned way, Worked hard, Toured hard, and constantly look to improve. Secret My Lips (live) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z7yllsRou5OZdZc.html Play (live) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/abKoi8KlmdzLZ4k.html BAND MAID - Blooming (off the last album Conqueror) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7ukkq1zstXHe4E.html

Anything BAND-MAID does live is fantastic, thanks to their charisma, energy and all the different additions they make to various songs. Maybe my love of U2 is why I love Band Maid so much, I too hear The Edge in the delay and tone of Kanami's guitar. @@JWSoundworks2 Looking forward to more of your reactions. I found Band-Maid a year ago and I'm hooked. I'm learning Japanese and have everything they have released. Funny thing about Child In Time. I saw them live in 1974 or so and they played that but I remember Highway Star more. It wasn't until recently though, of course, since we have KZfaq, that I saw the live performance on that audience set. I had the Made in Japan live so until a few years ago I never saw THAT live version but when asked last year what the greatest rock song was in my opinion my answer was Child In Time, any version. It still blows me away but when you have those five guys from Mark II is it any wonder?

One of the best rock instrumental ever. Nice that you are pointing out the styles that Kanami, the lead guitarist, is channeling . I know she has great influences from guitarist like Carlos Santana. But, one of the things that has drawn me to BAND-MAID is the style of the guitar riffs and tone. I agree it does have the sound of The Edge, Satriani and even some Angus Young with some riffs and Eddie Van Halen with the taps. Thanks for the reaction and hope you do more BAND-MAID in the future as you have only scratched the surface of this very talented band.

More peeks at an important, transformational group known as Band-Maid. Three things I think you'll find fascinating with this group; 1) the deeper you dig, the more you'll appreciate the members authenticity, writing and musical sensibilities; 2) your favorite song will generally be the one you're currently listening to; and 3) why does it seem they have no bad songs? Band-Maid has plenty of bad songs, according to one of their interviews. It's just that they threw them all in the dumpster and only released 114 (to date) of their most awesome songs. This disciplined integrity is one of the things that keeps them at the top of the rock pile. Thx John!

I have to throw out a bit of a brag :) I was lucky enough to be at the first performance of this song at Nagoya Diamond Hall on 4/4/2018. A friend and I had gotten tickets and were making a side trip from Tokyo to see the show that evening. We had tickets like 150 and 151 or so, out of 800, meaning we'd likely be a bout a quarter way back from the stage in the venue. I ran into a facebook friend there, and he had an extra ticket 'cuz a friend couldn't make it. He asked if I wanted the extra; it was ticket 25. So, I ended up on the rail. At that point, this song had not appeared on any single or album, no PV, and had never been performed on stage. When it started, you could tell fans (and myself) were like, "WTF is this!?!?" But, people went nuts for it really fast. This video was filmed on 4/13/2018 at Zepp Tokyo. My facebook friend had an extra ticket to this show, too, he was willing to give me, but me and my travel buddy were going to be in Osaka that day, and out flight back to the USA left the next day. So, unfortunately, I had to miss it. But, if I had know that they were going to make a DVD out of this show, I would have found a way to be there, regardless of the inconvenience.

The band was formed by Miku Kobato, the rythmn guitarist (who didn't know how to play guitar when the band started, she was a violinist), Kanami Tono is the lead guitarist and she is just amazing, and she taught Miku how to play guitar. Kanami writes the music and Miku writes the lyrics. Misa, or as everyone calls her Misa, Misa, Misa plays bass and is a singular talent and her background is as a cellist. The drummer Akane Hirose, is just unreal by any stretch of the imagination and is integral, along with Misa in setting the table for the band. The lead singer, who wasn't in this video, is Saiki Atsuma, who joined the band when Miku, who was going to be the lead singer, knew she didn't have the hard edge for hard rock and set up auditions and the rest is history. There is so much more of Band-Maid to see and hear. They also have an alter-ego band called Band-Maiko (Maiko is the Japanese term for a geisha in training), which does songs that relate to the geisha culture in Japan. They put out one or two songs a year and they are excellent.

Check more of their songs, Kanami is the name of the lead guitarist and is also the composer. If you got the Van Halen and Satriani vibes you really need to listen to more songs as she has riffs reminiscent to other guitarist. In fact I think what draws so many people to their music is that they make this sort of hard rock revival where they bring back the sound of a lot of classic hard rock bands but with their own spin so it still feels like something new and yet something very reminiscent to 'classic rock' so to say. Then with their latest releases their still pushing their music and sound forward and as good as they are I think they're getting better!

Now they are writing, composing and arranging all the songs. 35 songs have been released on their official KZfaq, all of which are killer songs. ★ The new song "Different" released in December last year has become the theme song for the anime "Log Horizon 3rd Season". ★ They released a new album 14 songs "Unseen World" in January 20 . ★ They released their latest music video "about Us" on February 19th. ★ On May 26th, they will release a DVD / Blu-ray of remastered online live 28 songs on February 11th + 5 other live songs. Great reaction. Always a pleasure to see a reactor who goes into why something is good. Other Band-Maid tunes to check out- the live versions of Domination, Play, Moritorium, Freedom, and About Us, and the MVs for Dice, Blooming, Rinne, and Manners. Also worth checking out are Lovebites and Wagakki Band. Finally, one piece of trivia on each Maid: Miku never played guitar before they made the video for "Thrill." The director wanted one of the singers holding a guitar and it ended up being Miku. Afterward, Akane 'suggested' that Kanami teach Miku to bolster the rhythm section. In six years, she went from wearing it as a neck ornament to getting her own solos. Kanami's stage persona is an idiot savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ. She is actually a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in Economics from Tokyo University (her parents insisted on her getting her degree before pursuing a music career). Akane drifted from instrument to instrument, dropping each as she mastered it. In high school, she tried the drums, and never looked back. Also, she is definitely NOT the band leader. Just ask her. And notice how quickly the rest agree with her. MISA'S stoic performance (focused, expressionless, rarely acknowledging the audience) and the bottle of bourbon on her amp were originally ways of coping with stage fright. These days, it's mostly just how the Barefoot Assassin rolls. Saiki is a huge train nerd and quite the fashionista. Rumor has it that she has a closet just for her sneaker collection.

I am an older rock lover and found new joy in Band-Maid. Your opinion that they are a throwback to the 70s and 80s (even 90s) with a modern twist is right on. This is why I enjoy their music. It's new and nostalgic at same time. You are in my top 5 reactors. Your insight makes me appreciate BM more. I was impressed that you immediately picked up the 5/4 time change in Onset. Others reactors sensed the change but were not courageous enough to identify it. Please do more BM reactions. I'm sure Maidiacs will fill up your channel.

You should listen to more from them. That hane a big library of really good songs and you can choose almost any of them. But some tips is, domination, puzzle, play, freedom, manners, warning, thrill and Cross. The latest one, cross, is one of my new favourites of this band. Make sure you find the videos on their official KZfaq if you using KZfaq clips. It's good quality on the recordings there.

This girls are great, and they have a big fanbase, so you would get a lot of suggestions what to react next. But, since you are playing guitar and piano, I would suggest you to check band Lovebites, They are also all girls band from Japan, and they play power/heavy/trash metal, with a lot of 80's metal influence (Iron miden, Judas priest, Metallica...). Main songwriter is Miyako, she is trained pianist, but for the last decade she play guitar to. To me, songs that are the best representation of what they usually do are Holy war, Thunder vengeance, When destinies align... Miyako loves to use classical music in their music, so you cen hear some Beethoven (Winds of Transylvania, Dystopia symphony), Sopen (Swan song, where the hole intro is Revolutionary etude), Rachmaninoff (Empty daydream). I hope you will enjoy.

There are plenty of more great Band-Maid songs to react to. Pretty much any of their official live videos are worth watching, beginning with Domination. But as both a guitarist and pianist, you may also want to check out the Japanese all female metal band, Lovebites, and the live version of their song, "Empty Daydream", on which Miyako shows off her genius at both instruments in the same song. Other Lovebites songs where Miyako plays both instruments include Edge of the World, Epilogue, and in particular, Swan Song (watch this version that includes her Chopin intro and her own piano outro, with some fantastic guitar solos in between: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJdynNijuM7VcoE.html)

Very nice and pleasently technical reaction. You can‘t go wrong with any Band Maid song when chosing the next ti react to, but their newer releases are more complex than the early songs. And keep on checking the scene of japanese female rock bands. Band Maid is without doubt the point of the spearhead of the bands emerging to international attention, but there are a lot more great band and musicians to get to know. Musically, they are not always related, but many of the musicians are friends or played in a previous band together and it is all Rock or Metal music. So please check out Lovebites (Edge of the World or anything from the official channel), Nemophila (Oiran), Aldious (We are), Mary’s Blood (Veronica), Doll$Boxx (Shout Down), Fate Gear (7 Years Ago) and so many more...
