Freddie Mercury - wrote Bohemian Rhapsody in 1975, Live Aid was in 1985, he didn't become diagnosed with AIDS until 1987.

Freddie Mercury was a genius musician, intelligent guy (as were the other Queen guys, i.e., John Deacon, Bass, Roger Taylor, Drums and vocals and Brian May, Guitar and vocals also). Freddie Mercury was a fantastic human being, honest and respectful, hard working and patient yet perfectionist. There would have been no "Queen Rock Band" without Freddie Mercury. The four were made in heaven, i.e., 'made for each other'.EDIT . . . Freddie alone wrote the lyrics and music for this masterpiece. The four of them worked STRENUOUSLY together to give the world this interpretation of Freddie's brainchild.

I loved the movie, that led me to the Queen's music and Freddie. But when I started to dig myself into the several books, interviews, documentaries I learned, that the real Freddie Mercury was very different to the depicted one. He was a kind, generous, caring, loving and funny guy, never an autocrat. According to Brian and Roger Freddie was the peacemaker in the band. He loved having a good time with friends and he wasn't as lonely as in the movie. The most authentic role is sadly Paul Prenter's. I will never undestand why Brian and Roger let to show the fake image of Freddie's, who meant them much more than a band member. And yes, BoRhap is a masterpiece. Please, check out Somebody To Love at Montreal 81.

THANK YOU for saying this. I, too, question Brian and Roger’s motives for approving the character depiction of Freddie. It’s obvious in interviews and documentaries that Freddie considered himself a bandmate equal to the others. He wasn’t keen that the interviewers wanted to single him out. He knew of course, that his stage presence brought the attention that Queen needed, but that’s the job of a lead singer, after all.

Yes i can't believe Roger and Brian could let Freddie be portrayed like that.I am an old fan since the early 70s. Glad i knew fact from fiction.

Everyone always comments on the great intro harmony. It’s a 5-part harmony of Freddie alone overdubbed. The other band mates obviously sang the harmony live, but the studio recording is only Freddie. Pay attention to it again and you’ll realize it.

They actually never sang that first part of the song in live performances; Freddie always just started with “Mama, just killed a man”.

Freddie wrote this by himself.

One of Freddie's Masterpieces, That intro portion is only Freddie, multi-tracked 10's of times. Who could possibly eve imagin that in less than 20 years after recording this song that Freddie would have faced such a tragic death? RIP Freddie Mercury. The truth is that Freddie was terrified of dentists which I believe was at the root of him not getting his teeth fixed, He knew that his voice came from his throat, not his teeth but as much as he hated his teeth, he chose to keep them. Thank you.

Thanks, Brandon.. such a great song... (headphones are so crucial to fully appreciate it.. as a teenager, I LOVED this .. and especially Brian May.. but we didn't even have that capacity to hear it as intended.. my fortune was to see the band live three times 1978-79-80... ) FYI, Freddie sang the entire opening segment .. appreciate your reaction and look forward to more... p.s. when asked - as he often was... what it means, he typically said "it means what you think it means" lol

According to Brian, Adam Lambert can reach notes that even Freddie couldnt match. He will never be Fred and he doesnt try to be, but he is fantastic.

That initial harmony is purely Freddy singing, the other members did not sing on this portion

@@Catstales4you Yes, there was one I remember where there was a group of young African-Americans (IIRC)(possibly from one family?) reviewing it, and they all just laughed hysterically all the way through it. Couldn't even begin to get their heads around it! I guess you can't win 'em all... 😀

Brandon, just watched your reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody.Your smiles made me wonder if people realize the feelings & emotions behind this song.Growing up in the 70's being gay was not as it is now. Most agree this song is Freddie coming to terms with his homosexuality.Gay people were still considered sick or morally bankrupt..Coming out as gay could certainly come at great personal & professional risk, specialy with friends & family.Freddie clearly says the suffering might not be the effort to live an open life.He claims he must first kill the man he has been in order to begine a new life as an openly gay man.The whole"mama mia" section describes the chorus of hate that the Devil himself will rain done on those who "choose" this lifestyle. These are not new ideas connected to this song, nor are they my inventions. Just thought I'd throw some light on ideas that not everyone is aware of when they enjoy singing along to this song with a smile on their face. :)

I respectfully disagree with you about the movie. Lots of people think the movie is a biographic. It is not. It is a biopic. There a a number of things in the movie that stray, sometimes pretty far, from the facts. If you see the movie, you should also do some background research on Queen and certainly about Freddie.
