These music genres always confuse me. Bachata, cumbia, tango, and mariachi are easier to differentiate. This video helped a lot!

This is awesome, thank you! Is there any chance that you could do guaracha, mambo, bomba and plena? It would be so helpful to hear ALL of the rhythms laid out in piano in order to compare across genres.

Thanks for the visual on the piano. I must see the written music, to see what the timing is. You count 'one', but it would be good to count the beat throughout - if possible. The reason is for recording with composition software, or playing with a metronome. There are a lot of rhythms that seem to have 'triplets' or something similar. I would like to help reintroduce Latin and Swing back into the mainstream 'electro-pop' type of music. [It would also be great to have people dancing together again.]

In general, a very good lesson. My one issue is the Cha Cha was very unclear. You need to put a bass beat note or a metronome under it. The feel was lost without it. Thanks!

OK, just as an idea. How about counting in before each example, or snapping the clave with the other hand. And what about the bass? And how about some annotation, written music, etc.. This would have made it a really great educational video. Thanks anyway!

Can you please help me ID the rhythm(s) used in “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” by Lin Manuel Miranda? I have heard it labeled as a ChaCha, but per your (very helpful) video above, I’d say it sounds closer to Gaujira or Salsa… Whatever it is, I LOVE it and want to hear more music with this beat!

TO ALL LATINOS EVERYWHERE- It is a fact that latin music forms: Son, Samba, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Champeta, Timba, Bomba-Plena, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Mambo, Soukous Sebene, Funk Carioca, Pachanga, Tango, Tropicalia, Zouk and of course REGGAETON all enjoy undeniable African roots and African influence. The white-washing and brownwashing of such Blackness has been relentless over time. DON'T GET IT TWISTED!

Love the video! But really did u have to give an English pronunciation lesson about the word genre?!? "It's French" you say. oh well thank u very much for narrowing it down... over 50% of English nouns are taken from French so what the hell is the poor guy supposed to do with that irrelevant tidbit of lovely trivia??!? Ok done my rant. -an English Teacher

Well, as an English teacher, would you say 'genre' is an English word? You seem to think so, but it's not. It may be used by English speakers all the time, but it's still a French word. AS an English teacher, you should know that unlike French, English does not employ that soft, vibratory "g" pronunciation, which is exactly why the guy said "It's French", to clue him in to using that type of "g" sound. He was NOT, as you said, giving him an "English pronunciation lesson", & it was hardly an "irrelevant tidbit of lovely trivia"! Side note: What kind of English teacher says "ok, done my rant" 🤣!! It's either "(I'm) done WITH my rant" or, "I've done my RANTING"! May you have much success with your ongoing journey of learning the English language. Ok, I'm done with MY rant! 😂😂😂
@poohsito78
@poohsito78 2 жыл бұрын
@@deepermind4884 *yawn* Ok let's be pedantic. Genre is an English word. I hate to break it to you, but it's been part of the English language for over 200 years, regardless of its origins. Just go check any dictionary. And I wrote over 50% of English nouns are taken from French, so your point is even more moot. "Ok done my rant" is colloquial. Are you aware of "register" in language? If this was a formal context/audience, then I'd agree it's incorrect. But if it's on the internet on KZfaq, it's perfectly acceptable as any English speaker understands what I'm communicating regardless of a missing preposition.
