Fabulous that you have taken the time to "attempt" an overview of the prolific output of Bill Nelson, I'm originally from Bills hometown of Wakefield and have been following his music for 50 years 😉😉 .... as brilliant as his music from the 70s and 80s is he continues to release unique interesting and beautiful music at an astounding rate, I do have every release and could recommend at least a hundred albums since Be Bop Deluxe that are essential listening , and just to clarify an observation you made about Bills guitar playing with Be Bop deluxe and the solos being practiced and perfected etc. ... Bills a Jazz aficionado and as such he never plays a solo the same way twice ...the "Live in the Air age" box set which includes several concerts from the tour you will hear a different solo on every song ,the tracks chosen for the original album are from several concerts. For sure... Be Bop Deluxe is only the very beginnings of that astounding musical career... and I certainly agree about the guitar soloing improvisations... I guess my intent was to say that his soloing doesn't SOUND like standard tropes of improvisation... or a random flurry of shredder notes.. or the kind of meandering scales and passages we're all so used to from some "classic rock" types. Nelson always seemed to me - as a guitar player myself - to be someone who knew where he was going, and had his melodies scoped out as he was reaching into improvisation - like a chess player thinking more moves ahead than the average player... He's not the guy who is going to hit wrong notes and then bend them into the right note to make it sound like he "meant to do that" hahaha. I have a feeling he was constantly working on his songs even though they were already set in stone on the vinyl... always tweaking and experimenting with melody and technique. :)
