There's hearing a Steely Dan song, then there's listening to a Steely Dan song. Their compositions are layered, complex, and catchy. A definite stop on the journey of any musician.

Pretzel Logic is a favorite Steely Dan track, right up there with Aja and FM. I always thought Reeling in the Years referred to someone recalling his past

Hey John! Glad you recognized that Reeling In The Years is a Steely Dan song. It's so cool for us fans to watch a reactor hearing our favorite music. I am glad I subscribed, you are a fun guy to watch react. "Reelin' in the years" - means looking back at your past and checking whether they are fond remembrances or bad memories. This song is considered one of the best guitar classics of the era. imagine, three guitar solos in one song. Keep up the great work John Ken

Pick any SD song or album and you have a winner. Their arrangements and production levels are top tier. Larry Carlton's guitar solos on 'Kid Charlemagne" are insanely good. That track is on 'The Royal Scam'.

Great reaction. Great guitar solo from Elliott Randall who was brought into the studio to perform this solo. Randall has performed with many of the greats such as John Lennon, Nils Lofgren, Peter Frampton, Richie Havens, and Joan Baez just to name a few. Thanks for this presentation.

I enjoy these reaction videos very much but find it even more amazing that these reactors have supposedly never heard some of these classic songs. I’m so glad these folks are getting to hear great classic songs they’ve missed out on. Never too late to discover new old music.

Kid Charlemagne and Don't take me alive should be on your list. If you like guitar solos these two songs represent the pinnacle of that art. The entire Aja album is superb. As are The Royal Scam, Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied. All amazing works for you to discover. I HIGHLY recommend the Behind the Music documentary on the making of Aja. You can find that here on KZfaq. Have a listen to Cousin Dupree if you want something with a bit of humor in it :)

This song is about recalling times with a girlfriend and a romantic breakup. It's one of the most popular Steely Dan songs, but also one of their least favorite. In Rolling Stone, September 17, 2009, Donald Fagan said, "It's dumb but effective." Walter Becker added, "It's no fun." It's a catchy radio friendly song and as I recall it got a lot of air play.

🙋🏿♀️ May I suggest 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number' for a pleasant & different change of Vibe from what you just heard. 🤗 Mostly so I can play 🎸 Bass & sing along! 😏 I swear, Michael McDonald is my Spirit Animal. So is Oberyn Martell... 😒 but that's a WHOLE different Convo! 😳 DOH'! 😁🐰

I remember the first time I heard Rikki don't lose that number, I hated it. I felt like Steely Dan had abandoned their roots. I have grown to like it,but it took a while.

Check out "Barrytown" an underrated song. (Possibly about the Moonies who had a seminary near where Fagen and Becker went to college.) I love its simplicity and syncopated rhythyms.

I think "reelin' in the years" means "getting old" - reeling in the sense of a fishing rod and reel, but instead of catching fish, you're catching age.

Like Rush, Steely Dan has a catalog worthy of listening to! You like guitars, Jimmy Page likes guitars. When Jimmy is home listening to music, one of his faves is Steely Dan. Maybe not so enjoyed by the masses, musicians know their music and there is a moderate number of songs from the Steely Dan catalog that are very good. Like Rush, to me, EVERY song is Top Notch. Won't you have a listen.
