The song is a longing to feel emotions the way one did when they were young. As we get older, the intensity can fade or disappear altogether. This is one of their fun songs. Take a look later ,on your own, at the Buenos Aires 2018 version. The S American crowd and Floor dancing all over the stage. Yes that's multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley. He started playing with them in 2007, and was made permanent in 2013 along with Floor. Troy has taken over Marko's vocal parts for this song on the current tour. You'll see him playing a lot of instruments, the Uilleann pipes seen here, and the Irish Low Whistle, Tin Whistle, Irish Bouzouki, and guitar with EBOW .

I really enjoy listening to these Nightwish reactions!!!! That Celtic groove is amazing!!!! Floor’s voice always gets me! I love her interacting with the audience at the end! What a thrill it must have been to be at that concert!!!

If you watch carefully, right after Marko yells "come on and jump!", you see one guy in a straw hat and light blue shirt just standing there in the middle of the crowd looking bewildered watching everyone around him. That's the legendary "time traveler". You see him in again in "Storytime" just before Floor starts in to the operatic part.

The newcomer is Troy. He can play all kinds of instruments such as bagpipes, flutes and various stringed instruments. He actually also has a good voice and has been the lead singer on one of their albums.

Good to see you working through this concert. Every song is a banger. Theres heaps of Nightwish outside this concert as well, but this is a great place to start. You have years worth of reactions with Nightwish to work through.

The "new player" is actually Troy...the sixth member of the band. He plays Uilleann pipes (an Irish form of bagpipe, as in this video), flutes and whistles, bouzouki, guitar, and sings, as well. As you venture beyond Wacken 2013 you'll see more and more of him.

It's about wanting to regain childhood innocence and wonder before you die (before the years take me). The Buenos Aires version is even better... Troy and Emppu were plotting. A bit later as Emppu passes behind Floor he pulls the plug from her in-ear. You'll see her reaching behind to plug it back in. When he comes back across stage you see her tower over him and take him to task. Bit she doesn't miss a beat. After only 10 months in the band they're comfortable enough together to do this. Troy joined permanently at the same time as Floor but he had played on specific songs for some years. My Anette recomnendatiobs: Scaretale and Slow Love Slow from Montreux.

Did you catch Emppu flicking Floor's in-ear monitor cable out of her wireless pack when he crossed behind her in the middle of the 2nd instrumental section, and her plugging it back in and then tucking the cable back in before Emppu gets a 2nd chance as he crosses back to stage left, when she faces him down? There are some fan-cam views with better angles, but even on this you can see Emppu telling Troy, and Tuomas looking across with a "what are those two up to" look on his face. A brilliant feel-good song though, and a good sign of how well they'd bonded in the 10 months since Floor had flown in from The Netherlands on 48 hours notice to replace Anette mid-tour in Utah. The only better version I know is in 2018 in Buenos Aires, which although it is a smaller crowd, being indoors, is remarkable for the super enthusiastic audience participation. Be sure to react to the Buenos Aires version again. There are only a few songs that were even better in direct comparison to Wacken elsewhere. This one is one of them. Even more fun.

I always hurry to your reviews, because you never fail to give a view from a unique perspective. I love this version because of the incredible playfulness between the family members, as Emppu disconnects Floor's in-ears as he passes behind her, then she "terrorizes" him, like a cat who caught a mouse as he returns. All the while Troy is laughing in the background because at the beginning, Emppu lays out his dastardly plan to him. I've never seen another band have more fun creating the greatest music I've ever heard. A variety of entertainment riches!! You looked like you enjoyed hearing it as much as I did hearing it again! Check out the Buenos Aires version, just to see what happens when a crowd winds Floor up and lets her go!! The amazing thing is that she was sick for that performance, but you can barely tell. Troy was made an official Nightwisher at the same time as Floor but was used as an instrumentalist on the two preceeding albums. A marvelous addition.

Yes, it would be cool to check out other vocalists, too, but you have some great songs comming: Nemo is one of their most famous songs, they use to play it in mainstream, too. Last of the Wilds is an instrumental song highlighting Troy, Bless the Child is the first song from the 2002 album with interesting atmosphere, and Romanticide is usually the second song people react to after they discover Nightwish through Ghost Love Score. So that tells you something. Just so you know. ;)

This is pure fun with mischievous Emppu conspiring with Troy to pull one on the unsuspecting Floor. The moment is not on camera, but when our pocket viking moves behind Floor's back the 2nd time, Floor gives him the Valkyrie eye.. As to different versions, I'm now supposed to say that there's no "better" one and that they're all "different" etc.. So now that I've said that, I can recommend the Buenos Aires 2018 version, which is the better one. Cheers from Amsterdam!

Great reaction as always, Jeff! Troy has immense bandwidth. You heard him here on his pipes, but you'll also see him on whistles, mandolin-looking things and on guitars. In fact, he does a great job when playing electric guitar with an E-bow. Also, in case you missed it, those were three-part harmonies (with Troy as #3) on the 2nd and 3rd choruses. This song is all about fun wherever it is played, but you should check out the Buenos Aires version. Kai's on drums there, and the audience is off the charts engaged. Worth a look and listen, for sure! Thanks!

I think End of An Era concert is the best way look at Tarja era. It was last concert in their world tour, back home in Finland and in the end it was also Tarja's last concert with the band, when after the show the others finally gave her the famous letter and kicked her out. Like Tuomas have said, at that point it was like a climax of their career, they had rehearsed almost ten years for that concert. At that time it was their biggest production and it kinda finally put together all their ideas and visions, what they were from the beginning, about the visuals and all what comes to dramatic shows. Nowadays we've used to it and maybe we all little bit forget that these kind of things don't happen just flicking your fingers. I think it's an excellent concert, maybe even better than Wacken 2013 in my mind. I would start with Dark Chest of Wonders (End of An Era) and move on from there.

If you choose to react to any Anette songs, I highly recommend Escapist. There is no music video or (decent quality) live performance version for it but I think it's one of the most underrated Anette era Nightwish songs. Probably because it was only on the Bye Bye Beautiful single. With Tarja, the End of an Era concert is gold.

I can see that the story about Emppu unplugging Floor's in-ears is still spreading. Just so you know, no one from the band has confirmed it. They have never even mentioned it. I myself can't see him doing it in the video, I can only see him run behind her. The only place I have seen it being talked about is the YT comments. :P I don't know why Emppu would even do something like that. He knew that the show was being recorded for DVD, why would he risk ruining it?

This song is from the Imaginarium album. A concept album about an old composer reminiscing about his youth on his death bed. In this song the composer is wishing he was young again so he could feel all the emotions of his youth, even negative ones, before he passes. For Tarja songs most people vote for Phantom of the Opera which is quite good but for me Marko steals the show and Tarja, while amazing, gets overshadowed. Sleeping Sun, The Siren, Nemo, Everdream, or Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan are much better examples of her beautiful voice. For Annette Amaranth music video, Meadows of Heaven (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rN6jndlnsdq2qmQ.html), Slow Love Slow live from Montreaux, or The Crow, The Owl, and The Dove official fan video ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n9-JaLR-y5qVlJ8.html).

One fun thing that occurred in this song, Emppu turned off Floor's in-ears and you can see her struggling to get them back on. We see Emppu and Troy conspiring, then Floor turning on Emppu as he goes by. I'd also suggest looking at Floor's first band After Forever and the band she created after AF folded - ReVamp. This band was her creation and her sound back then. It was a lot heavier than either Nightwish or AF. "Monolith of Doubt" or "Dreamflight" for AF and "Disdain" or "Wildcard" for ReVamp.

Live recordings with decent sound for Anette are none existent. Live at Gampel Open Air 2008 is the best I've found. Sticking to the studio recordings might be best for her. For Tarja always start with Phantom of the Opera, nemo, sleeping sun.
