The song is written in the POV of someone who leaves his hometown for Beijing(北京 shares the same Chinese character for North[北]), which is the equivalent of (assuming an American's POV,) leaving an underdeveloped state/city/area to NY or LA for a chance at a better life/career/income. Namewee gets his idea after he has been invited to work on a China tv show and sees stars from different countries all gathering in the China market. It fits the current trend of stars, particularly the Chinese(be it from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and wherever else), who all want to get into the booming entertainment industry of China. But he keeps it real in the video so it's from a POV of a normal person who is searching for a better opportunity in Beijing.

The most beautiful thing of this song is not its rhythm or beats or the voice of Leehom, its the lyrics. Its about people leaving their home going north to Beijing ( or from villages to cities) to search for their dreams and opportunities. After all the difficulties and survival they had faced, they missed their home, their families. Namewee is a Malaysian born Chinese ( so do I ), its very very very hard for chinese here to get major recognitions in local entertainment industry. Usually famous Malaysia or Singapore born Chinese artists, actors, musicians have to start their career by going North to HK or Taiwan or China. Thats why Namewee wrote this song.

hey man, i could see the parts where you like leehom, you should look him up if interested. the dude can play i think 18 instruments if im not wrong and he even created his own genre. plus he was born in NY so mandarin wasnt his mothertongue(to top it off) his early stuffs' really good specially the R&B ones.

It's so weird that you've heard of Namewee but not LeeHom. I think he's American? or maybe Canadian? He's one of the biggest CPOP singers in the 2000s. I think most Asian kids grew up listening to his song and kind of evolved together with him.

Fun Fact: It was actually about Namewee's own personal troubled life during his university days. His shot to fame or defame (Depends on what angle you look at. Defame if you're an idiotic, extremist Malaysian Muslim) happened when he remixed the Malaysian national anthem Negaraku as his own new creation called "Negerakuku" which caused a lot of issues for himself and even his parents while he was studying in Taiwan (It's still north of Malaysia but not Beijing as stated in the song) where he had to stay in a small apartment with unfamiliar surroundings and faces while living with a fear that he will be arrested when he returns home.

It's a song about how Chinese people move to the North and struggle to keep themselves alive... Very meaningful song...
