Julia Crawford I like how you pointed out the cutesy part was pretending and covering up the toxic relationship, cuz all the parts he said “cute” I found them creepy as hell. For example, that part when Yeri was jumping on the bed almost looks like she’s out of her mind, and it reminds me of those supernatural horror movie scenes with the cult girls dressing in white dresses. Aaaand then Joy creeped in with her very slight villainous smirk as she closed the door isolating Yeri inside with her. They didn’t go for the blatantly murderous vibe, but rather classy with just enough hints that they’re planning on murdering you. The more you watch this music video, the creepier it gets

Hai Nguyen Thanh Yes. And it makes complete sense when you read the title and lyrics. In such a situation, the mind can go thru unimaginable mental gymnastics in order to convince itself that all is well when the reality is truly horrid.

That's certainly one interpretation of it. I don't really get toxic relationship from the song overall because of the instrumental. It's triumphant, it's like the end of a movie where they're driving off into the sunset of a happy ending. The MV and the lyrics might make you think all of these crazy things are happening, but we're kind of spectators to it. We're outsiders looking in. Unlike Peekaboo where it's extremely clear that they're murderers, this doesn't show anything of the sort. A lot of the lyrics aren't meant to be taken literally, in my opinion. Otherwise, why would 'other people say we make a cute couple'? And they say they're in a 'beautiful and sad relationship' but at the exact same time it's only 'we're a little weird'. I think they're just a couple who have learned to disagree and accept each other despite that.

Kodoku Pierrot that’s the total opposite of what I feel of the song. Both the lyrics and the instrumentation sound very depressing and dark, not to mention it reminds me of a toxic relationship I was in back then. On one hand the narrator sees all the problematic and toxic aspects of this relationship, but on the other hand they try real hard to turn a blind eye on them, “don’t look back” “everything will be okay” were exactly what I told myself back then, and the relationship eventually got broken inevitably. Because we were clearly “fools who just blindly fall in love”

Hai Nguyen Thanh YES you said it perfectly. To me, the happy and cutesy aspects of the song are merely the facade that real life sufferers go thru trying to convince themselves that all is well. I love songs that exhibit text painting like this. It gets better with every listen, and encourages one to look at each piece of the puzzle.
