MUSICIAN REACTS TO End of a life - Calliope Mori (Original Song)

To think Calli was so worried about this song she had considered never releasing it. My absolute favorite of hers, glad you enjoyed it!
@DavidTheHooman2 жыл бұрын
It really is something that she should be proud of!
@orangeapples2 жыл бұрын
I do understand why she didn’t want to release it. It’s because it was such a personal song. The attraction for some people when it comes to vtubers is the disconnect between talent and character. So many songs are about Calliope the Reaper or Calliope the Vtuber or about nobody in particular. But this song is about Calliope the person and there are people who don’t want to see that. There is also the aspect of putting herself out there like that and it doesn’t resonate with viewers. If people didn’t like Off With Their Heads, sure that sucks, but Calliope the Vtuber can just brush that off. If people didn’t like Bully, Calliope the Rapper doesn’t care. But if people didn’t like End of a Life? That can only hurt Calliope the Person. Her choices were take the safe route and not release it or take a chance and put it out there and maybe they won’t crucify her for it. I’d imagine that while she was debating it in her head she was looking at the lyrics and realized the path she didn’t live is the same as not releasing the song. Taking off the mask is a very risky thing for an artist to do because if people decide they don’t like you and want pretend you that can really kill passion. As an aside, that’s what the Hannah Montana movie got wrong. Maybe I’m misremembering, but I seem to recall that at the end she sang a heartfelt song as Miley and some girl says, “please go back to being Hannah Montana.”

@@orangeapples In Calli's instance, that chance paid off big time, 8.6 million views on this song right now for her and it's only 5 months old. Personally I love everything she puts out, such a talented artist and so different from everyone else.
@lareolanKFP2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidTheHooman I don't think it was a matter of the song not being good enough. It was just very personal for her. In the chatting stream after this song's release was the first time I've ever seen Calli break down and cry on stream, she's always been the most stoic of all Hololive EN. I can't hear this song without tears welling up every single time.
@geminirenegade92902 жыл бұрын
Yooo! Cali's incredible and that sax is godly! The story behind this song is a pretty sad one. Back in the day, Cali had some people she really looked up to and admired. Eventually, through a ton of hard work she was recognized by those people and made friends with them. They made music together, trying to make it big, even if they didn't really believe they could. Cali continued to grow and become more talented and recognized and eventually she joined Hololive and became a sensation. But the people she admired so much became jealous of her success and turned their backs on her. Through it all, she just wanted them to be proud of her. And yet, she felt guilty, because suddenly, she was far more popular than all these great underground musicians that she looked up to and admired. "I felt like I was a villain, like I was the bad guy of the story. Suddenly I’m driving away into the distance, watching my heroes fade as the villain of the story. That was how I saw myself." "What I really like is, I guess I just wanted some of [my mentors and friends] to be proud of me. And say like, “Hey, kid, you did a good job,” you know? But that didn’t happen."
@effortlessfury2 жыл бұрын
Another important detail is that the underground rap scene in Japan collapsed (due to COVID) around the time Calli joined hololive. The whole situation was made worse by people not being able to persue that career anymore (at least not in anywhere near the same way) even if they wanted to.

Glad to see you react to this! I would love to see you react to more vtuber songs! This song just always hits me right in the chest, been living in my head basically since it released. The sax backing the song, Calli's vocals, the lyrics **chefs kiss** If you want to hear more of the same vtuber (Calliope Mori), i recommend anything from her "Your Mori" EP (my personal favorite is probably "Red"). Her songs usually mix japanese and english. She and another vtuber (Gawr Gura) have a song called "Q" which is also a banger!

Definitely keep going with the vTuber series, so much great music comes out of this community. I'm, of course, partial to Calli. You've heard a few different styles of music from her across the spectrum. If you want to jump to another drastically different genre from her, you can check out her collaboration with TAKU INOUE, "Yona Yona Journey." If you wanna see her go hard, "Off With Their Heads" (has two curses). Though honestly, I think you might like "The Grim Reaper is a Live-Streamer." So many good choices. XD

This is such an interesting take on music!!! I'm normally the one to look up more vocal teachers because getting hype about singing is SUPER FUN, but the way you focus on the actual instruments is such a breath of fresh air, I'm thankful you were reccommended to me truly. (And a part of me hopes you finish the Beetlejuice album but dw I can wait. I know you gotta stretch out the hype and also let your ears hear a mix of things to completely refresh) KEEP GOIN DUDE AHHH!!!
