It’s really cool to hear his story. Matt is such a genius. It’s interesting to hear his take on Self. The thing I like about it is all the genres mixed together in one song. That’s part of what made it special, and there isn’t a lot of music like it. He mentioned Breakfast With Girls not doing well, but that album is really amazing. It’s a bummer that it didn’t get the attention it deserved. I hope he decides to do more of that kind of thing at some point, at least as a side project. For now, I’ll just keep binging all his old albums.

Loved sElf for sure. Hugely influential for many bands of the mid '90s -- like mine. So ahead of his time in terms of production and the songs on that first album are fantastic. Still sounds fresh today.

Royal Tone is the studio he referred to that Linda Perry bought back in the late 90s or early 2000s. She has since sold it and it's called Sphere now. It was probably one of the last super luxurious studios built before digital recording became the norm.

Matt's story and sounds are completely innovative💡 and interesting to me. I wish I would have known these things were possible when I was 20. The studio is such an artistic playground. I love making music. Matt definitely has that spark and sees things in an original way...🎧

OMG, I used to work at Tusculum Music back in the day in their drum department! I was just a kid! I remember all those 808's, Linn Drums, E-Mu's, DMXs, that rolled through that place! Matt is my hero! One of my favorite artists of all-time!!

after ten years of labels, albums and touring, i switched to being a sound designer for dance mostly and i really prefer it. the teenager me would never have believed it but it's true. i agree with matt about no longer being confined to a 3min song. and now my clients are like "can you make it more weird" and stuff, whereas the labels were always like "oh god you're not gonna leave that thing in are you?!"
