Not only that, once you lose your hearing: you'll never get it back. It's absolutely permanent. You'll be deaf for the rest of your life. That's why I'm planning to wear my Mack's Pro Ultra disposable foam earplugs with a NRR(Noise Reduction Rating) of 30 db(decibels) in conjunction with my Howard Light Impact Pro earmuffs with a NRR of 30db as well when I play any instrument that has a unadjustable volume of 80db or higher. Hearing is a very precious gift, that's why it should be taken good care of.

I use SE215s and I get a real good seal from them. I have no problem with the isolation, sound quality, and comfort with them. They isolate perfectly and sound great. Can't say the same for other people.

Thanks for this! I've been playing for 33 years and have never worn ear protection, and I'm a loud player as well. Only until now have I really thought more about it and have run into the exact same problem - cranking up my earbuds and defeating the purpose of ear protection. I'm going to give this a try!

Hi Casey I really enjoy your tutorial and lesson videos, and so I was hoping you would consider making a video on the actual purpose of each cymbal (crash, ride, splash, china, etc. ) and what sound should come from each cymbal? I believe that this would be a really great and informative video, as I have seen many drummers out there who do not understand the differences between cymbals, and I consider it something that every drummer should know! Keep up the great work, I love your channel! Brandon :)

for anyone asking how you can wear these earphones and have headphones over them. 1. the cool thing about the shure se series is that they have a negative profile so they don't stick out of your ears like most earphones, they have more of a profile of a custom iem but with the universal fit. and 2. he's using the headphones that don't have any audio capabilities, he's only using the ones that are meant as earplugs basically.

This video isn't really about the headphones, its about protecting your hearing because that is what is most important, but I did want to give an example of something you could get if you were interested that protects your hearing and is very affordable. I've used mine for the past two days and I really like them. Its great to be able to turn down the volume of the music coming to my ears instead of trying to overpower my playing! Thanks for watching :)

I use Behringer DT770 pro headphones, they have a great quality and they isolate the sound enough for me to play to a song. However, I do the whole thing a little different, I hear my drums through my computer and the microhpones while I'm recording. This is quite beneficial as you can adjust the volume of your drums and the volume of your songs :) you should give it a try!

I'm 61 and have been playing drums and guitar since I was 18. When I developed tinnitus, I was able to cure it by not playing nor listening to loud music for around 2 years. As I began to play again, now the hiss inside my ears has returned and it never stops, even when I go to sleep. Take care !

When I purchased my drum kit, I also bought a pair of the Hearos Rock n' Roll ear filters. I put them in and I can't hear anything but my drums, but just enough to hear what I am playing. It's not blasting in my ears. They're comfortable and you can wash them and reuse them. I would recommend them. They're only like $5 at guitarcenter. Have you ever heard of these, Casey? And, if so, what is your opinion/thoughts?

A few weeks ago I went to a night club which was being held in a bar and the DJ had the music totally blasting like I've never heard music as loud as this before it was stupidly loud and my friend and I was sat across the room from the speakers and after 10 minuets when I went to go the toilets my ears was ringing like hell and I couldn't hear a thing. I had to keep going away because it was horrible. Anyway by the end of the night I left and my hearing was totally fucked like normal talking sounded like they was whispering. Ever since that day I've had constant tinnitus. Don't make the same mistake I made that was ONE session and I have already developed tinnitus.

I have both and the SE535's are more of an IEM with graceful mids, whcih is good for music that has a lot of vocals. the SE215's has a bassier sound signature which I also like about them. I use the SE215's more when I'm out and about than the SE535's.

You should probably get your hearing checked out by an audiologist if you haven't done so already. The peace of mind you'll get from verifying that your hearing is still perfect will be fantastic. As an aside for anyone else; consider getting musicians plugs made by an audiologist. They're far more neutral earplugs made of acrylic with a filter so that you can listen to your playing at a safer level without distorting the sound.

+Trev x In this case, individual opinions don't matter. When I hear about drum teachers/students and popular drummers who have hearing problems, I know I have to protect myself to avoid those problems. I know you made your comment a year ago, but still I want to say that placing a comment like yours doesn't contribute to the topic. It's just your individual case, and who knows you might get the ringing in the ears later on in your life. Anyway, I do hope you protect your ears because once it's too late you'd slap yourself in the face.
@TheYonderGod

I agree that people need to protect their ears, people try to be "cool" by listening to super loud music and not protecting their ears while playing or standing right next the speakers at a show. But all you need a decent pair of closed headphones imo. I use JVC-RX700s and they're amazing quality for the price and block out enough sound. Imo those ear muffs block out too much and are too uncomfortable.

Hey man, I do something similar: Hearos hi-fi in ear isolation buds and a good pair of headphones overtop:) that way, both the sound of the drums and the music have to go through the protection before they hit your eardrum. I Love this method cause its a natural eq to both the music and my drums:) (and its much cheaper) ;)

Do you have any idea of good sound insulating for walls? My parents are going to build a shed in the summer and I might be taking the old galvanized shed that I can put a drum kit in and computer (man cave sort of thing). I live in a housing estate and all the houses are pretty close. My mom cuts hair for people in the house and my next door neighbor does massages for people so sound insulation is very important!

Any Suggestion On How Can I Protect My Hearing When Using E-Drums? What Sort Of Headphones Should I Use?
@seandully567
@seandully567 8 жыл бұрын
Doesn't really matter because you can turn the volume down on e-drums. The whole reason that you need hearing protection for an acoustic drum set is that you can't turn down the volume. If you are playing e-drums in any place where they need to be loud like a live performance then you can just use any hearing protection you would use for acoustic drums like foam earplugs.

This is VERY important, I can tell u all, if u want to be a drummer for the rest of your life, you should use protection, it will for sure damage your hearing if u dont. And, if you think this is too expensive, or you live in a country were you cant find this. Just go to a drug store and you should find some cheap ones. Or, if you know where to find a gunshop there you can find a lot of different ear protection, and they shouldn't be over 5 dollars. I use mines to shoot and to play drums :p
