Li Yugang works at an opera company in China, where he sings the female roles. Singers in China don't allow lip syncing so YES it is live. 🎶👱‍♀️👗👠👠💓

Beautiful interpretation. Two styles, the traditional Chinese opera and the contemporary, telling us a story at the beginning mixed with Diva Dance to end again with Drunken Concubine. Dimash and Li Yu Gang, present us as a dialogue, the tragic love story between a famous concubine (represented by Li Yu Gang) of the Chinese imperial court and the emperor (represented by Dimash) for that reason the two thrones in the stage. The Concubine has problems with her emperor as a result of the intrigues of the enemies in the imperial court. The emperor is sentencing the concubine to death (hence Dimash's fry vowel issuing the sentence). The concubine reminds the emperor of happy times together, but does not change the outcome, the death of the concubine. Two great interpreters Greetings from Nicaragua 🇳🇮

God, if the concubine had sung so beautifully to me I would have rescinded the death sententence. A voice so beautiful should never be silenced.

Hi Andrea and Sean, I loved this performance! Li Yugang is a singer and a performer in the Chinese National Opera & Dance Drama Theater. He specializes in roles where the male plays a female role in the Peking Opera. Thank you, Both, for another Fantastic Dimash video!! You're the BEST!!! 😀

LiYugang sings for the Peking Opera. He is known for traditional singing of the women's parts. He is in his 40's during this performance. (note: he wears thick soled shoes because Dimash is so tall - 6'3"). 'Drunken Concubine' is about the Emperor - Dimash - putting the concubine on trial for treason, he pronounces her sentence to death - the deep vocal fry, The concubine - LiYugang, reminds the Emperor of their fun time together when they were very drunk. The emperor wishes that they could share one more drunken time together. Interspersed is the both of them singing 'Diva Dance'. This is a fantastic duet!!! It is unique and like nothing else I've ever heard before. The blending of their completely different singing styles and techniques is exquisite. Thank you.

Li Yugang is singing in the traditional style of Chinese opera (men also play the women's parts)--if you watch him throughout the entire performance, he has very stylized gestures, part of the traditional style of singing he uses. I think you guys would REALLY enjoy Swan Goose, a duet--Dimash and Tengri. Tengri is Mongolian/Chinese and the performance is again an East meets West kind of thing. The "backup band" is intriguing and there is even some throat singing thrown into the mix.

DIMASH is our KING OF SOULS. He is always so awesome so glad you two love him as well. Many of his duets are with friends he made when he was a contestant in I AM SINGER and just by anyone who hears him. This DIVA DANCE is that computer generated song and DIMASH sang it in 2017 I AM SINGER. He is good friend and so is JAMS he sings a duet with recently. Be impressed it sounds disrespectful but this is live. He is a gifted singer just in different singing culture. He is amazing. I love his other music which after I saw this performance visited his site.

They are used in singing on stage like a play or like a broadway musical so yeah it is actually live, hard to believe but if you listen to a peking opera stage performance you will be amazed. ☺️

In this song Dimash crazy high note is F#7 (2,794Hz) and His low crazy note in this song is E1(growling). New range is E1 to D8. Amazing Harmonies. Thanks for the great reaction, (as always). When it comes to these two men and their "stage presents", "acting" ability. Remember that they are both Classically trained Opera Singers. They are meant to "act" out the songs and be natural doing it. This was not just a concert. It was a reenactment of a famous Chinese Opera scene. They really do know what they are doing. Also if you listen closely, some of the notes are a little "off". That would be easily corrected in a Lip-Snych version.

Yes its Tik Tok it's a Chinese app 😂 Li is a Chinese Traditional Opera singer who specialises in female parts. Until recently women were not allowed to participate in Chinese opera. Its all live as in China you must sing live, lip sinc is banned

Nice reaction, you two. From what I have gathered, Li Yugang can sing male and female tones. His voice is so pristine that it sounds too polished, like it is autotuned. But it is not, he literally mimics instruments when he sings. Of course Dimash is going to throw a whistle note our way. Not sure if it was an F7 as I didn't measure it but I think it may be somewhere in that realm. Aren't you glad that we've been introduced to Dimash's throne? He's owned it for about 200 years. Always enjoy you two. Have a fantastic weekend!

It is the way Chinese opera is done. Also if you watch Tengri he doesn't move his mouth much. It seems all of their resonance is done inside the mouth. He is known for female roles in Chinese opera. Dimash was in the role of the Emperor..his warmer more bel canto suited that. While Li was doing the concubines role so the typical Chinese opera sound really suited that. It was and interesting combination of 2 different schools of music. In The Diva dance, Dimash used his staccato approach which is like the movie. Li used a more blended approach where his notes connected more, rather than being separated. Again, I found that unique. Thank you for you comments as always fun and interesting. 😊

I wasn’t a big fan the first time I heard this combination, but I’ve grown warmer towards Li Yu Gang’s traditional tone. It grows on you and plays on the frivolity of his voice. Of course, I always love Dimash’s vocals and now consider this one of Dimash’s more interesting duets.

Perhpas you figured it out on your own but, if not (and for others who may want to know) here's how it works: On most Fridays the MTV youtube channel runs a Friday Livestream for three hours (5-8 pm, New York time; calculate your time zone differences before tuning in). You simply find it by going to youtube, type MTV Friday Livestream in the search bar (no sooner than an hour before start time since it's a livestream and doesn't appear until just before scheduled) and when you click on the livestream picture that comes up you can start voting in the chat section to the right of the streaming video. It's simple. Just type REQUEST DIMASH as many times as possible in the chat during the three hour program. We wear our fingers to the bone but it's worth it to see Dimash finish #1 in requests the past 11 out of 12 weeks--especially since most of the music featured on that program is mediocre compared to Dimash and his finish at the top vastly improves the content of the show (especially since the #1 requested artist is the only one who gets two songs played!) Dimsah has said that he desires to be successful on this program and this is an easy way for us to help espose him to western world audiences. The livestream will be running next Friday without a host so there probably won't be a voting platform that means anything so the next time to tune in will be Friday, June 25 and every Friday thereafter. When you type REQUEST DIMASH do it in caps and without emojis or extra text because those extras can invalidate your vote.

Very funny to hear Dimash hit mega whistle in a performance where he suposed to take a "low voice" part. So the lowest is an F#1 and the highest is - F#7. Six octaves, ladies and gents!

Ask Elizabeth about what Li Yugang is doing vocally. He is in the Peking opera, where males sing female roles. He is actually in his 40's. Its what he's done all his career.

as much as i love the bastau version of diva dance, this performance is becoming my top favorite. li yugang is amazing and from what i know is known as a female chinese opera singer, hence the range. they mesh so well together though that it makes an insanely amazing performance.

hardly anyone reacts to this version (which is slowly changing) and hardly pays any attention to mr li because they're only there for dimash. but i definitely became more interested in li yugang after this performance and am amazed at his skills too.

This was at the Spring Festival in China, and was a performance between two opera singers with a fusion of two operatic styles. Li Yugang is an opera singer from the traditional Opera House of Beijing. In the ancient chinese theater only men may perform. Li can do the part of women's voice at operas characteristic style... Notice at the end Dimash ends higher then Li.

The other singer, Li Yugang, is a renowned actor of traditional Chinese opera, and that is the style he sings in this duet. Li has been known for playing and singing in female roles in Chinese opera.

hi! i highly recommend zhou shen’s ‘big fish’ performance from singer 2020 cause it’s so beautiful and it honestly shocked me when i found out the face behind the voice after many months of listening to it :’)
