Scream is funny because people recommend it a lot when touting Dreamcatcher as having a rock sound, but Scream is primarily an EDM song. For rock/metal, I'd go Break the Wall, No More, What, or Reason.

@@powbobs That's fine, but don't say " Hey rock guys, you'll like Dreamcatcher because they have a rock influenced sound, here's a song by them that...isn't really a rock song. " It's like the folks who tout Band Maid as a "metal" band primarily, when really their main sound is more (excellent) hard rock. I love Dreamcatcher, but enthusiastic fans sometimes kind of set them up unfairly. They do have VERY rock oriented songs, but Scream really isn't one of them.

@@HuginMunin This isn’t the first Dreamcatcher video they’ve reacted to. Scream is one of their most popular songs, and most fans want the trilogies to be seen in order, so of course many will request it. I agree about metal heads being irrational about Band-Maid. But I generally can’t stand metal heads, so I’m biased in that case.

@@powbobs Yeah, the the other one they reacted to was Deja Vu, which is also not really a song I'd tout for rock fans. Dreamcatcher is my favorite kpop group, and Deja Vu and Scream are great songs as general recommendations. I just don't think they're great songs if you're recommending specifically to rock/metal oriented reactors if you're advertising Dreamcatcher's ( legitimate ) rock influences.

In the KPOP industry, they have weekly music shows almost daily. All broadcasting stations have at least one of these music shows. Artists promote their new song in one of those shows. A "win" means getting first place in one of those shows. Dreamcatcher took the longest among all the kpop artist to win their first music show win, about 5 years from their debut.

Scream is actually a part of Dreamcatcher's Dystopia Trilogy and they dedicated it to address everything about bullying. The tree you see at the beginning is called "The Tree of Language" and it withered away when people started to say bad stuff or when bullying and cyberbullying happened. To give you guys a bit of a background this is the three title songs for the trilogy and a little bit of what they mean: 1. Scream = "Hear no Evil" 2. BOCA (It means "Mouth' in Spanish) = "Say/Speak no Evil" 3. Odd Eye = "See no Evil"

I recommend that you please start at their first song to get the feeling of what made them so internationally famous: "Chase Me". Then work your way up the timeline as the first group of music videos all tell a continuous story. Though I adore "Deja Vu", and enjoy "Scream", this was the point where the songwriters started going for a more mainstream, less Rock sound in order to garner a win in the Korean music arena, which they finally did with a very K-pop sounding "Maison".

If u want something that really hard hitting rock from dc, listen to their earlier era, japanese songs, or some of their bsides..chase me, good night, no more, eclipse, sahara, new days, etc..but tbh, dc are not about rock 100%, they are more of like combination of different genres..they have trap, edm, raggae, acoustic, ballads, rap, jazz, etc..

Hi Guys, thanks for bringing back Dreamcatcher. Scream is one of their more 'poppy' title-tracks, with more focus on the EDM, which does fit the theme of the song, which is Cyber bullying. Oh, that is also one of the reasons we InSomnia love this group so much. It's not that often that you find a pop group actually addressing serious issues with their songs, and sound good doing it. The whole Dystopia trilogy (Scream, Boca, and OddEye) focusses on the dangers of the darker side of social media, and their Apocalypse trilogy (Maison, Vision, Bon Voyage) is about climate change. As mentioned in some other comments, rock music is not very popular in Korea, meaning Dreamcatcher has been fighting an uphill battle their entire career with initial success being abroad rather than domestic. Their first songs where heavier and I think they shifted the balance between rock and pop a bit to make their fight a bit easier, without abandoning their core concept. As you well know, Japan does love rock and metal, so Dreamcatchers heaviest stuff would be their Japanese releases like their theme song for the King's Raid anime Eclipse (my personal favorite is No More). While they do not perform with a live band that often, they have done a couple of concerts with a live band. There is also the show 'It's Kpop live' where Kpop groups perform their songs with a live band. The problem with the performance of title tracks however, is that in Kpop there is also a big emphasis on the choreography, which doesn't leave much room for interaction or spontaneity. A good video to see what they are like on stage with a band is their performance of the song Mayday during an online concert in 2020: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gN50jJtj3p3Hj5c.html

"wins" of "first win" refers to Korean music shows. Many Korean musicians, primarily but not exclusively Kpop, will promote new song and album releases by performing on music shows that are hosted weekly on various networks. Getting a "win" on one of these shows is often times viewed by international Kpop fans as a sign of a group getting recognition in Korea. Even more so because it can be very difficult for international fans to influence the outcomes of these shows. It's a big deal for many small and medium sized groups in Kpop as well as for groups like Dreamcatcher that double down on international appeal. For most larger groups its kind of just assumed they are going to win and the mark of success moves to how many wins they get or other things such as "Perfect All Kills."
@kheatshadows
@kheatshadows 3 ай бұрын
Also to add to the statement. A win also opens up more publicly opportunities for the group, such as but not limited to, being guest on popular shows, marking up their merchandise and concert prices and many other quirks. These recognitions give them more chances to make it bigger in the industry. And Dreamcatcher finally have they first win for Maison!❤

At this point Dreamcatcher has had 4 music show wins: Two wins for Maison and Two for Bon Voyage - it was all very emotional for them and their fans. They should have had a win for Deja Vu a few years earlier, but it was infamously stolen from them (My opinion).

dreamcatcher \:D/ the dystopia trilogy(scream, boca, odd eye) is a lot more on the electronic side to go along with the theme of the darker side of the internet. scream addresses online hate/bullying. they like to really mix it up and incorporate all aspects of music. as you noticed with the dance vibes, scream uses an edm twist for the chorus. the dystopia trilogy is a little more popular because it uses more mainstream sounds which depending on which side of the musical spectrum you are on can be either good or bad ;) if you want to check out a live, try 'break the wall' (search live showcase eng lyrics) or 'endless night'(music video). both are a little more on the straight up rock side.

I recommend their JPN music like "Endless Night" "No more" "Breaking Out" since Japan likes heavier rock than Korea. For Korean music, perhaps check out "Maison" or "Break the Wall" I do not recommend the trilogy "Scream" is part of that the other comments are recommending since it leans more towards pop unless you want to anyway (personally I like their music regardless of how light or heavy it becomes)
@spiralwarrior6569

Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.

I have a lot of respect for Dreamcatcher because they do their own sound and style, regardless of what the "mainstream" K-POP sound is. It makes them very popular outside of Korea but it's unfortunate that Korean's tend to be very conservative about sticking to societal structures, included but not limited to beauty standards and musical sound.

They have had a live band at a few of their performances in South Korea, but generally they don’t outside of it. Their company isn’t really big enough to afford the cost of a live band or back up dancers when doing tours outside South Korea. It’s usually just the girls themselves up on stage. Small but the concerts are still hella fun and generally sell out pretty quick.

I don't feel it's necessarily true that they can't afford it. I think it's more of they put their money on other things they find important. Having a band isn't really part of Dreamcatcher's concept. They're a K-pop group through and through, so more money would likely be spent on image and performance, and with the amount of tours they have, a big chunk of money is probably spent on that as well. I think it's more likely they would rather spend more money on the girls than hire a band to play at their concerts when it's not even necessary.

For vocals, Bon Voyage or Rising from TongTongCulture or Odd Eye from Esquire Korea. For vocals AND seeing more of the girls’ interactions, Reason from MCountdown France (it’s their fan song to Insomnia and encore song), Silent Night fancam, and in general to get a feel for their personalities it’s a great idea to check out their solo songs from the Apocalypse: Save Us album. I love Dreamcatcher, TBH a lot of their sound really reminds me of Japanese Anime Theme song music. I really feel like their producers are really influenced by that. It really feels like a mix of a number of genres, but done right. The rock and edm mix is so new and under used. The group just has a better international following, and they don't get much recognition in domestic music. They just don't fit the 'mold' of what kpop is domestically.

Thanks for giving Dreamcatcher another reaction! I think a common misconception (by both InSomnia and others) is that they a rock group and they aren't. They are a K-pop group and create pop music first and foremost. However, their niche is that they incorporate rock and metal elements into their music. This is especially evident with Scream and only get more-so as you progress further into their more recent tracks. That's not to say that they don't have rock songs, but you'll have to go into their early A-tracks or mostly B-sides to find them. Going forward, I would suggest keeping that in mind as you react 😊. There are Seven members in Dreamcatcher as the K-Pop Girl Group. They are under a company that changed its name from Happyface Entertainment to Dreamcatcher Company, specifically geared to be Dreamcatcher's support. Happyface had other groups and soloists but it looks like that side of the business has gone away. These girls took center stage of the company (not by the choice of the girls; this is what the CEO and the Board of Directors decided to do). Rock and Metal are not appreciated by the general public in Korea, so if a group that is primarily Rock/ Metal is going to get any sort of traction, it has to do it outside of Korea. They have done 'fair' inside of their own country but really, it's the International appreciation that saved their bacon. DC struggled for more than five years before the moneymen in Korea FINALLY got it through their heads that DC actually make GOOD MUSIC, even if it is in a genre that is not appreciated there. But the Rock and Metal side is for all of their Title Tracks. Their B-Sides and other music that don't get Videos attached are not always Rock or Metal. they have a GIANT array of genres that they have covered, they literally have SOMETHING for EVERYBODY. DC has covered many other artists; Maroon 5, Little Mix, Camila Cabello, Billie Eilish... They are GREAT at everything they do, completely worthy of being called World-Class.

They are a Kpop group blending genres, always with elements of rock but they aren’t a purely rock group. Their live vocals are INSANE, and they can do rock vocals so well. I would never recommend Scream as a rock track (it’s more EDM but it is fabulous though as a huge Britney fan I’m not sure I’d go quite that far with that comparison 😂) but if you lean rock I recommend their songs - No More, Tension, Rising (it’s SO GOOD), Break the Wall, Endless Night, Diamond, What, Vision.. they have such a unique discography covering genres like funk, pop, EDM, rnb, lo-fi.. they can do it all. In Korea, Kpop groups promote their releases on various music shows each week (TRL would be the closest comparison, maybe American Idol lite) and compete for a “win”. Basically it’s two hours of various groups performing their latest single and then one of the groups win a trophy. There’s about 6 shows per week, so it’s quite laborious for the groups as they spend hours filming their performances for a couple of weeks in a row without breaks (Western artists could never). It’s seen a badge of honour and gives groups credibility (though to what extent it’s an even playing field for groups is very debatable because groups coming from more well known/established/wealthy companies will always have a leg up over groups like Dreamcatcher who come from a very small company and who stick to a niche concept that doesn’t necessary appeal to the Korean general public). Dreamcatcher do now have four wins under their belt, which is a massive achievement.

You started off with Dreamcatcher's musical and visual masterpiece, Deja Vu, which is high on my list of best MVs ever done. The Scream / Boca / Odd Eye trilogy is good, but you might find Because, You and I, and Vision more interesting musically. The first two, like Deja Vu, have a more classical sound (listen for some Beethoven in Because). Vision is straight up hard rock, and imo their best of that genre. And like almost all their stuff, the lyrics deal with interesting themes -- especially Because, which is about a love that suffocates ("your face is blue ... like an ocean view").

Honestly I think you should watch "Chase Me" and "You & I" before you go forward to get a feel for what they started with. They very much took a lot of notes from J-Rock early on, and they like to infuse a lot of other genres with Rock/Metal elements. If you want more of a Rock sound, I would go for "Endless Night," "No More," "DEMIAN," and "Propose." The former 2 being Japanese releases & the latter 2 being recent b-sides. "Scream" is the track that got the attention of many fans of i would say metalcore bc a lot of the more recent bands considered metal bands (but metalcore maybe hardcore &/or scene would be more accurate) have infused EDM influences into their sound. Dreamcatcher have also done Reggae, Jazz, Funk, and the list goes on, bc they are an extremely versatile group. To be honest, I was floored you two said this one was more pop bc while it does infuse a lot of EDM influences, it would be closer to newer music considered rock/alt/etc.

Thanks for the reaction! Scream is maybe their most electronic sounding titles track, heavily dominating the rock elements (which are still there). Since you're attentive to the lyrics, and if you're going to continue the distopia trilogy (even if it wouldn't be your next reaction to them), BOCA has 3 sets of english subtitles, the ones to choose are English (United States). Don't forget this for maybe a later reaction. Since you're aiming next for something live, as many other said, you can try "Break the wall", either with the original live showcase kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipqkfZeS1My2cps.html (with a goof use of megaphones AND subtitles) or at their 2022 world tour seoul concert kzfaq.info/get/bejne/apejaMaAvNK9cmQ.html (with a live band). Or you could do both, sincerely my heart can't decide and i'd be curious to know which one you'd prefer :)

Why has ODD EYE....and BOCA...not been done yet.. you need to listen to those from a rock kind of perspective. Get it done...

I'm simple. I see Dreamcatcher, I click. Y'all should absolutely check out more. BOCA and ODD EYE are the obvious choices from here, as they continue this trilogy, but Black or White or Red Sun are B-sides from this song's album and are fantastic.

They’re talking about winning trophy’s at Korean music shows, which is very important for success in the Korean market. Korea does not like Rock unfortunately. Their first win was blatantly stolen from them.

While they do have more rock oriented songs, your wish for heaviness is unrealistic. Very few Koreans like even moderate rock music. If they went heavy they wouldn’t have a career in Korea. Expectations need to be tempered by reality. Plus, many if us are not fans of heavy music.

Definitivamente no recomendaría Scream a un metalhead jajajaja Scream es más para los que no escuchan rock/metal De lo contrario recomendaría Endless Night, Raising, What, Good Night, No More, Break The Wall, Tension, Wake Up
