Richey had to have committed suicide. I once said the same thing about never wanting to commit suicide then turned around a few months later and attempted. People's moods change. Then you got him giving that gift and withdrawing large amounts of money ... Just definitely seems like he was making final preparations.

There's a Japanese artist called Takako Mamiya who recorded one of the best Citypop albums ever, called Love Trip. Thing is, after it released, she disappeared into the annals of history. What did you expect Paul King to do? He had to try and make the interview upbeat, he probably felt utterly awkward. He even said "...we find the Manics in a "reflective mood". It's quite clear that Richey was in a really bad place at these NME awards (probably Feb/Mar 94). I think it was the April time he went missing for a weekend then he attempted suicide in May 94 (apparently he had hacked his wrists quite badly). Such a shame cos Richey was sooo cool. I was a Richey obsessive. Even named my son Richard James in 1998.

I’ve only seen that clip of the interview but you can see it in a lot of interviews how the interviewers don’t listen to the actual conversation or they have a certain agenda / aim for it, so the conversations don’t go past their own premeditated purposes. If a interviewer who was present in the conversation had heard that you’d think they’d question further into the meaning & thoughts behind what he said

King Geedorah is pronounced GEE-do-ra, with the accent on the first syllable, because it’s a reference to a 3-headed monster (hence the album cover) from a 1964 japanese kaiju film “Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster”, which is also the fifth film in the Godzilla series. that’s the way it’s pronounced in the film and that’s likely how DOOM would’ve wanted it, being as he probably watched the original and got inspired by it to come up with that stage name. hope this was helpful :)

@@tylerramos7633 it’s the japanese pronunciation; because of how stressed/unstressed syllables work in japanese, there are instances (like this one) where that middle syllable kind of drops off when pronounced, like in words like sakura (pronounced almost like “SAK-ra”). there is sort of “uh” sound in there, but to foreign listeners it’s hard to catch, hence why DOOM said it that way. at the end of the day, both pronunciations are practically the same and are both accurate in theory.

Thank you for not showing Richey’s full ”For Real” photo ❤️ As someone who was a big Manic Street Preachers fan, almost the same age as Richey and is now almost 50, it feels sad to hear someone so young thinking that when you get older you can’t find new things to get excited about anymore. Young people are just so short sighted sometimes and it’s so sad. There are so many things I could never ever believe I would one day enjoy, when I was in my twenties. Danny Kirwan, who was an early member in Fleetwood Mac, was a very underrated musician in the band (often overshadowed by Peter Green), had a similar demise, basically fell off the face of the earth. If that's what you truly believe, please get help. Yes, people we love will die, but that's a fact of life, and grief is the price we pay for loving people. Many people can, and do enjoy life past their working years because they find purpose in other things. Even with health problems (which you don't need to be elderly to experience), many people find life to be a precious gift they're not willing to give up on before their time. I hope you can recognise your gift 💙🩷💜

He's somewhere on the bottom of the English Channel for certain, but how it came to happen isn't quite as clear. The most probable hypothesis is that the direct flight path his pilot probably took was through a 'bomb disposal' area where returning bombers dumped unused bombs to reduce the chances of a bad landing becoming a disaster. One American in a B-17 told several people that he saw a small plane below their formation as they dumped their bombs, and that he was sure it was a Noordyn "Norseman" (the type of plane Miller was in) because he learned to fly in one. Another person in that formation filed an official 'sighting' report of a small plane below them had been hit by one of the falling bombs which broke a wing off. Attempts to correlate the times of these events seem to make it unlikely as there's a 10- 20 minute disparity. The plane's engine may have quit due to carburetor icing which was a known problem with the Norseman, and the pilot apparently wasn't very familiar with the Norseman which was the only plane available to Miller at the time. There would have been plenty of time for a "mayday" call on the radio and plenty of stations were listening but that wasn't heard. There is some speculation that the plane's radio was inoperative due to parts being taken out to use in a more important aircraft; a common practice during the war. All that is certain is that they were seen leaving the English coast and were never found to have crossed onto the land of France. The Norseman was largely a wood and fabric plane which would likely be rotted away, and the engine and most big metal parts are common for other aircraft; only the engine serial number could identify it now, and that's probably corroded away by now too. Many hundreds of planes have crashed into this part of the channel so the odds of finding it are as close to zero as you can get. Glen Miller was the master of the big-band sound and listening to his music is a pleasure; one of the tightest bands ever.

I've never heard of Jim Sullivan, but I wonder if he decided to go explore the desert near a supposed UFO crash site and ended up getting lost out there and died. That happens way more often than you might think. People who have never been to a desert before decide to go exploring, and don't understand how treacherous it can be. Everything looks exactly the same and dehydration comes up on you so quickly, it is way too easy to get turned around and lost, there have even been remains found of people who died of exposure just a mile away from civilization and safety.

Sue was also held in high regards by fellow musicians like Thurston Moore and Bob Bert of Sonic Youth. She joined the band Swans in ‘82 and she worked on their debut album, Filth (doing the guitar for tracks 2, 3, & 9), and their compilation album Body To Body, and then mysteriously vanished after going to the hospital in ‘89. She wasn’t pronounced dead at any time nor is there any record or obituary of her. There’s no record of Sue dying at the hospital visit, though it was reported that she went because she was really sick and the hospital food made her even more sick because of her diet of booze, drugs, and junk food. To this day no one knows the whereabouts of Sue Hanel, not even swans who last worked with Hanel in ‘84.

Shelly is probably still alive. Dave (the leader after Hubbard died) is notoriously vindictive and emotionally cruel. He likes to mentally torture and physically endanger as a form of punishment, and endless toil is his style far more than death (look it up, but be warned it’s really rough. The Sea Org is basically a horror movie, especially when you’re being punished). She’s likely hand copying Hubbard’s words in a vault somewhere where it doesn’t matter if she can run her mouth out in the desert, and she will probably be there until her body gives out and she dies. People keep looking for her at their “base” in inland CA and the surrounding areas. The likelihood she’s there is low as Dave spends his time there and that’s where they do their media projects. I’d guess she’s probably at the bunker where Hubbard’s stuff is being recorded on metal plates out in the desert in the middle of nowhere in the Mojave. Plenty of drudge work and if she were seen, no one would recognize her. But that location is almost completely under ground so that’s not likely in the first place. He believes he’s got her for a billion years, and he’s going to run out that clock watching her suffer. The police say she isn’t missing, but as so many police in the area moonlight as Scientology security, I’d take that with a grain of salt. I don’t think she’s missing. I think Dave knows exactly where she is and keeps her exhausted and worn down so she won’t change her mind about being life long and run or bounce and talk. What she knows is dangerous, but not any more dangerous than she’d be as a body showing up after all this time. That would only serve to validate Leah Remeny.

If you're interested in another case of a musician gone missing, feel free to look for Daniel Küblböck. A former popstar of DSDS fame (the German equivalent to American Idol) who also starred in one of the worst movies of all time, Daniel the wizard. He vanished on a cruise ship five years ago and is presumed dead.

I really love the Incredible String Band so I’m glad you included Christina McKechnie in the list! The band made amazing psychedelic music that was at the same time highly sophisticated and home woven. They were genuine British hippies and might have experimented a bit too wildly with drugs and religious ideas. Mike, Robin and Rose are all doing well but I fear Christina might be another one of the acid casualties of the 60’s. Maybe she never really left the surreal world the other just briefly visited.

I'm sorry to say I think it's very unlikely Richie is alive. A sad truth is that I live in town with a bridge and a river that is the towns number 1 suicide spot, it is actually saying to say "I hop they haven't gone to the bridge" when thinking of someone who's in a bad mental state, who's not been seen for a while. Sadly now with mobile phones and such it's easier to trace people, many have jumped the bridge and their bodies have not been recovered sometimes for months. As they can get stuck under the water. This is most likely what happen to Richie, I find suicide tragic but also somewhat selfish as families then have to live with that. But if Richey did take off all those years ago, and has lived peacefully away somewhere then it was an extremely terrible and selfish thing to do. To leave everyone to live in limbo all these years. I think the most likely outcome was that he did commit suicide and his body unfortunately never surfaced and obviously won't now. If you just listen to him in interviews, he was an extremely depressed person who could not listen up, he clearly developed no coping mechanisms which everyone needs to fight depression and he was severely underweight and looked like a walking skeleton. His car was being lived in with pictures of his family for god's sakes. No one can really tell me they think that he escaped and ran away somewhere. He was clearly sducidal and possibly trying to figure talk himself out of it in that car, before he finally couldn't take it anymore. It's sad but ultimately I don't think anyone can really believe he ran away.

Agree. He would have known that running away wouldn't solve anything or change things and bring him peace of mind .

One thing about Richie that people often overlook, and only say this because I too deal with it,is that he was overcoming addiction, and he didn't want to go back to it. Most understandable, like the singer from Linkin Park, and I hate but do believe that he jumped the bridge. I believe he saw it as a better choice than making other people around him suffer his addiction with him. Horrible choice, no hope in suicide eternally, but I don't and can't judge him. "If You Tolerate This" is a beautiful song, and sad at the same time. A deep truth lost without looking at the past in a proper way.

It's amazing how far the awareness has come for those struggling with mental health issues. There's so many more programs to help people and overall the general public are empathetic towards those struggling with it. Compared to just a couple of decades ago where anxiety and depression wasn't taken nearly as serious as it is today. Tragedies of the past have taught us if we treat those struggling with mental health issues with care and empathy and with therapeutic services horrible things don't happen nearly as often.
