It’s never a good feeling to wake up and not remember the night before because you were too wasted. It’s even worse if there’s video evidence of your drunken antics, but at least it was only in front of some friends, and it hopefully won’t go viral on the internet.
These famous musicians, however, managed to completely embarrass themselves at concerts, leading to drunken performances that were memorable for all the wrong reasons.
From the Puddle of Mudd show that ended after a few songs to the Billy Joel/Elton John concert that had Sir Elton face-palming, let’s take a look at some musicians who were just way too wasted to perform.

Billie Joe Armstrong | 0:57
Vince Neil | 1:49

Grunge .. I never played Sober in my entire life ... When I used to play Live I would smoke a lot of pot to help me hear the music ...and Drink Hard Liquor right before I walk out on Stage , 2 Triple Shots of Scotch usually does the trick ... I'm not a drinker though I haven't been drunk in years I can't even remember the last time I was drunk ... Thumb Up ... Cheers Z

Yep. Showed up to a gig a few hours early and wouldn't you know it, they had a special on fish bowls of draft beer. Not being one to turn down cheap booze I had about 3 or 4 fish bowls before the rest of the band showed up. On top of all the drinks I'd put away, a friend of mine shows up to watch us play and offered me a handful of xanax...yeah, not a good idea. The only thing keeping me vertical was my mic stand. After about 2 sets the manager of the bar told us to stop playing. The rest of my band was ready to kick me out, but I went back and asked the bar manager to give us another try, apologizing profusely. Long story short, we went back, kicked ass, and I've never been wasted on stage again!

The sixties and seventies were acceptable as that was the time when bands were able to do what they wanted without the record companies imput but, by the eighties, record companies expected bands to keeping coming out with bigger hits and to be on their best behavior during the shows! Besides, the sixties and seventies performances were legendary as soon as they were over, and they are even more legendary today! Todays bands and artists will never hold any legendary status no matter what they do!

LOL! The Vince Neil story was posted by me on Blabbermouth. A buddy gave me the heads up that he was smashed back stage before the show. He was so drunk that he couldn't perform anything. The band played a few songs (Zeppelin) without him and were great. Corabi came out and tried to save the show (he was playing with Ratt at the time). Vince came back out and they tried to sing Livewire. Corabi ran for the hills and Vince asked for a guitar which they gave him but didn't turn it on. He screamed for them to turn it on during most of the song and after it they ended the show.

the reason why billie joe was so angry about that was cah their show got cut short. shows jus aren’t a random set of songs thrown together,, they have a set structure of songs ranging in paces and that all got fucked just for a bit more time for the ‘main act’. every musician can understand his frustration

What about Ozzy Osborne when in 1982 he did his speak of the devil tour at Irvine Meadows in California.....in the video of him singing Crazy Train he was clearly high and drunk and possibly a little lost, I guess not all musicians have a limit on being way to wasted to perform

yeah, I've seen that performance so many times from other videos. It's pretty eerie watching him. I know he's supposed the be the "The Prince of Darkness", but we all know it's pretty much just a part of his act, but in that performance, the look in his eyes is just demonic. Your comment about him looking lost is right on. He's got this confused look in his face the whole time. But, ironically it wound up being a pretty successful performance!

@@harleyrobertson73 yeah, you're right. As a matter of fact, that performance was only like 3 months after Randy's death. I could only imagine the trauma of witnessing something like that.

An old boss of mine saw Elvis Presley 3 times in Vegas. Said that the first two concerts were awesome but the third time he said that they basically carried him out on stage set him up behind the piano and walked off. The band and backup singers performed the show. They actually refunded his money.

If you think about the one who built his whole character as a boozing and singing hobo, it would be Tom Waits. Never seen any footage of him actually being drunk, have you?

Woodstock would have been the only place to get away with it . People are too anal today. But remember kids are watching, try to be respectful to the audience. Not to blame go back in music history. Been there a long time . People get wealth and fame . Drugs and alcohol does destroy. That go’s for sports Hollywood and all . Maybe we pay too much for this type of entertainment??
