Distorted stuttering organs, tasty rnb guitar, and high heel shoes form the basis of this track! Watch as I break down my attempt to use the writing and production techniques that I found in Taylor Swift's song. Leave me a comment to let me know of other songs I should break down!

Thanks so much for this! I've been a writer a long time, in fact I'm published (yay) but only just finding my way as a producer and often struggle to create interesting rhythms without more traditional drum sounds. This was really insightful so thank you!

Great. It would help if you click on the track you'r describing. That way we could see the track settings on the left. Example: when your describing the heel track 1:12 , you still have the tambourine info on the left. It'd be great to see the settings for the heel track. In fact you do this in the several videos I've sen thus far. That doesn't take away from the awesome work you've done. I hate negative comments, this is just an observation. Keep up the good work. You've got a nw subscriber.

Well this was just amazing. Aaron Dessner is that you 👀 I don't know if you've done much Taylor but if you ever get a chance or need ideas could you do something similar with her song Style from her album 1989. I really love all the music and production behind it and just find the whole musical production world thing so fascinating that I'm just trying to play about with it now aha. Hope you see this comment :)

loved this! I am currently learning to produce my own music and struggle because i end up with either too much layered or something missing. This was a great tutorial to see how you arranged step by step and building the "cake". Also I learnt that I have to pick a unique melody or beat and slowly build it up, not necessarily starting with piano and then feeling like I have to play the piano constantly and come up with a complex piano lead. Thanks a lot, keep them coming please :) Requesting Griff - Black Hole

Amazing! What effects did you put on the drums so they sound like an echo of the snare? Is it simply volume or a hi-pass filter? Or did you put some delay on the snare?

Music Is A Verb I wrote some songs but I cant play any instrument. Just playing with GarageBand & lyrics. Lol. That’s why it’s nice to see u created all this stuff. 🙌🏾 Please check other songs by Taylor Swift. And also Lana Del Rey (her album Norman F-ing Rockwell was so good). 😊

GarageBand is how I got started! I don’t think it’s too dramatic to say that it changed my life. I’ll definitely look toward more Taylor and I would love to do one on Lana Del Rey! Similar vibes to this new Taylor album sonically.

hey i was wondering how you got the shaker to fit into triplets. i have TONS of shaker samples but i dont really have one that was specifically meant to land in a triplet kind of pattern. i have played around with them for a while but cant really figure out a way to get it to have that triplet swinging feel to it. would love to hear your thoughts!
@MusicIsAVerb

Hey! I feel your pain! I have definitely sat there frustrated cutting up shaker and tambourine loops for way too long. This might not be the simplest answer- but honestly I gave up on using samples for those two instruments in particular a few years ago. I always record them specific to the track I'm making and then make a loop from that. I'm no expert percussionist, but I typically play for long enough that some section of what I played is loopable and then I go with it. I hope this helps!
