There is NOTHING Greek in her song, other than the lyrics. The melody is gypsy, the basic instrument is not at all linked to Greece, her voice tone is what we used to do in early school years to mock other children. The song is pure garbage!

It's Asia Minor sounds you hear at the beginning of the song. Check out Rosa Eskenazy, an iconic Greek singer from Smyrna, Asia Minor, who sang "smyrneika/rebetika" at this pitch tone. Zari means Dice. Philoxenia means Hospitality. Filakia is a diminutive of Filia which means Kisses.

I want to see plates being smashed on that ➕ stage. Love your analysis of the songs. So fantastic to get an understanding of what is happening musically in each of the Eurovision songs. I consider this Zari one of the more complex songs in the contest this year, and it sets my hair on fire. Bravo Marina. Bravo Greece. Love from the fellow Aussie.

The Greek song is my favorite. It is fantastic supported by a singer with amazing presence, performance, and voice. It’s fresh and cool with an unbeatable rhythm. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.❤ (and thank you for this very good review from every aspect)

Let's see how the performance goes and then maybe you can take back the comment about you not seeing her winning (ik you liked it a lot). I think Greece's huge advantage compared to other favourites is the lack of a love performance. She has stated that the song was made for the live perfromance and based on inside info it will be huge in the arena!

The irony with Greece is that while it's the cradle of western civilization, it's usually not perceived as a western country. In my opinion Greece is a very western country, but has managed to not sacrifice culture, tradition and values to capitalism.

First time i listened to the song, i hated it. It confused me. But the second time i found it interesting, and now i love it. Marina is a soprano, sing a capella with a huge voice, she sings, she dances, she performs , she is fire!!!

Bollywood? We call it Minor Asia (Anatolia) and Thrace, dude. Loved the song's structure, her vocals and instruments -especially clarion! Igotta admit for a while I thought Turkey returned to the Eurovision! By the way, yeah, two nations lived under the Ottoman rule for centuries and yes, we have some common words like ZARI (in Turkish it's ZAR:)). This was the most amazing song of ESC 2024!

In what way you tought “but is not hindi”?, maybe she wanted it to sound hindi and give that hindi bollywood effect and is actually great. At first hearing i loved that and recognized as hindi indeed, there’s no doubt I think that the hindi idea go on trough the song mixed with the greek melos. Also the use of english words randomly enhance this effect for is typical in hindi language and I’ve got this remembrance.

3:40 as a Turkish my biggest criticism of his dancers in Eurovision were they wasn't looks like Greek dancers and more like Netflix dancers... It was really big disappointment. I was hope to see more traditional and good dancers. Still my favorite this year though.

You are very very wrong. We have more common to the east than west.Our songs are eastern, our history too. Our food, appearance, everything except for religion. You are one of those Greeks that are you ashamed of your middle eastern or Balkan origin (and I don't mean the Slavs who are different) Change nationality because all the sounds at marina's song are super familiar and traditional: the high tones found in rembetiko, zourna our traditional instrument, darbuka as well. All the middle eastern instruments are our traditional instruments too: Buzuki, oud, Lyra, zourna, klarino-ney, baglama, darbuka, kanun, saz, sandur. Our food is eastern, our sweets too: Baklava, kataifi, burek, imam baildi, pita, doner, dolma etc etc They are almost the same like Turkish and arabic. Byzantine music had microtones like Arabic maqamat, very similar to each other. Our appearance is more Eastern Mediterranean. When we go out to have fun we dance on cifteteli, zeibekiko, karsilama tones that are eastern. You may believe that you live in ancient Greece but since then was a great population mix and cultural interference with mostly the east. We can have easier company with a Turkish or Egyptian than a German. Because our cultures are similar. With the nation state appearance in 19 century they tried to rediscover the ancient roots and try to westernise Greece. But culture is deep and till now is more eastern. Ah and we have a lot of gypsy music too which is a great chapter in our history. And it is Eastern like because originally they come from India . Sorry that I destroy your myth
