It's kinda cool how we all can relate to this song as overachievers, even though Marina wrote this about getting a record deal which none of us have done 😂. I really like that Marina's lyrics can be interpreted in different ways.

This song really hits that spot in your heart that makes you cry while listening to me. I'm the eldest of my siblings and Mother always push me too hard to be the best, to be the role model my siblings can learn from; As she said, "If you have the best attitude and high academic achievements and intelligence, your siblings will see you as their role model and copy your behaviours as they grow up." And I've never learned how to disagree and say no so I never said anything and just nod and did as she said. Mother's way of giving me 'motivation' to learn was to insult and tell me how poor I'll become; How I will have a bad husband and will have to work as a vegetable vendor. Mother also always compare me to my friends, successful people in the interviews they show on TV and sometimes even strangers, and everything she compares me to someone, it feels like my chest is clenching and griping on something and tears suddenly wells up in my eye. When she talks bad to me, I always imagine many ways I can talks back and argue with her, though I never says those things. I guess I'm just kind of scared of her, whenever I think I build up enough courage to talk back to her and how wrong she treats me, bad memories always surges up I'm my mind and it's like I was reliving those bad moments and all the courage flew away. It's always like that, every single time. Memories like when I was only 7, when she forced me to clean up the wet floors alone as she told my siblings to watch me cleaning it up(I always wonder why? I was just a kid, I get energized and sometimes do silly things, but I was just a kid), I felt so humiliated that day, tears were flowing out of my eyes and I suddenly didn't want to be a part of that family anymore. Other memories like one day before exam, she pulled me inside the guest room and beat me with a stick 10 times because I couldn't learn the word meaning. I came in 2nd position out of 48 students and still she compared me to my friend that came in 1st place. I just finished my exam yesterday and result will come out next Wednesday. I know I will come in atleast top 10 but Mother wants me to come in top 3, if I don't she threatened to take my phone away. I have friends but now that it's the summer break, I don't feel like talking to them anymore. It's not that I'm angry at them or anything like that, it's just that I don't have the energy to do it. I am unmotivated to just text them. Maybe it's because I've been bullied and repeatedly betrayed by my ex friends over and over again, but this time I can't help myself but to feel like there's a distance between them and me. And I started feeling like it's not right being with them and that they're going to leave me. For example, two of the friends that I am the most suspicious of just ignored me and slept in the recess, in front of me, in the middle of the day while I was trying to talk to them the last time we saw each other. Am I really that boring ? Honestly, I don't really want friends anymore and I don't feel like I even need them. Am I a terrible person? There's something else. I have good grades. I don't even have to try to have good grades. And my parents are very proud of me. Gladly, they don't pressure me at all, they say that my health is more important than school, etc. But I don't believe them. Why would they be proud of me if I didn't have good grades? There's nothing else in me that could make anyone proud of me. And it's not just about my parents anyway. I have +130 IQ, I can't just be like anyone who has an average IQ. What would be the point of having a high IQ if I'm not special? I skipped a grade, and I still want to do more, I'm never satisfied because I am never the best. I truly hope that one day I'll be the best no matter what. But I don't do any effort, I am just too lazy, I don't have energy, nor motivation. I recently developed tics because of all the stress and none of the treatments given to me are efficient. My parents care about me and my health but I don't. I don't wanna let go.
