Shooting and history of the Musketeer Bold'Artillerie:
Video on the musket of Artillerie Gras Mle 1874.
The Gras rifle is an improved Chassepot rifle, after the defeat of 1870.
With the adoption of the Mauser 71, France has to be at the level in the arms race and adopts the metal case system, very practical, which replaces the paper cases!
The Gras rifle will be available in 4 versions:
- Infantry rifle (right breech lever, bayonet)
- Cavalry rifle (bent lever, no bayonet)
- Gendarmerie rifle (elbow lever, bayonet, and note that the Gendarmes on horseback will borrow the cavalry rifle!)
-Artillery musket (elbow leap, bayonet 1866, the shortest version)
A modification in 1880 will be implemented with the milling of the box.
One last development will be the M14, which houses the Bold infantry rifle in 8mm Lebel!
Some Gras modified in 8mm Lebel were even used in 1940...
