As a Christian who is planning on studying Islamic apologetics, I believe many of the people in this comment section do not understand the weight of asking a Muslim to become a Christian. It will never EVER happen in just one comment on one video on one verse, especially one like “I and the Father are One”, even though I personally believe it means a few things and from looking with a Christian lens, it supports the argument that Jesus claimed to be God, but in reality in the eyes of a Muslim who has been taught all their lives that verses like these don’t mean Jesus claimed to be God they are easily (but incorrectly) rebutted. To those here who would like to witness to a Muslim, I’d say get FIRM in your foundation in the Gospel, then get ready for the long haul, because asking a Muslim to become a Christian is asking someone to do what their belief system says is an unforgivable blasphemy and will 100 percent condemn them to Hell, as well as asking them to utterly obliterate their worldview, their family, their friends, their lives even. With that in mind, here is my statement on where Jesus claims to be God: in Daniel 7 there is this depiction of ״someone like a son of man” who is coming on the clouds and who sits on the throne with God and is co-sovereign over all creation, ruling alongside God. Now many Muslims repeat what they have been taught by their imams (basically a Muslim pastor to sum it up) that the name son of man that Jesus calls Himself supports the Islamic argument that Jesus wasn’t God and was merely a man. But that is not the case. In Mark 14:62 when Jesus is asked if He is the Christ, the Son of the Blessed, He declares, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of Heaven”. To be specific, the verses Jesus is quoting here are Daniel 7:13-14, “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of Heaven there came one like a Son of Man, and He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion and glory and a Kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom one that shall not be destroyed” and Psalm 110:1, “the Lord says to my Lord: ‘sit at My right hand, until I make My enemies Your footstool.” These verses, Daniel specifically, describe a certain Son of Man sharing in Lordship and sovereignty over all creation with the Ancient of Days, and the claim is that of Deity, because, as God says, “my glory I will not give to another.” So Jesus declares His Lordship and deity all across the Gospels, and even here in Mark, the oldest Gospel. Now, there’s many many points Muslims will bring up, such as the supposed corruption of the Bible which is a whole different discussion, the denial of it being a claim of deity, or something else, but that’s why it’s a long haul with Muslims, and one that requires a very close bond, a strong faith, good knowledge of Scripture, a basic understanding of Muslim believes, and a whole lot of grace and love and patience and understanding. To all those Muslims out there, I don’t want to use my message as an attempt to attack Muhammad, convert you in one message, or attack Islam or anything like that, but just to get you thinking. Treat the Qur’an with the same level of skepticism you treat the Bible, be unbiased, try to play advocate for the other side to see our arguments instead of trusting solely on tradition, even and especially to learn about how your religion contrasts with ours and, with genuine zeal for God, seek the truth. Because if you really really love God, you wanna make sure you know who He is, even if it means you lose everything else on the way. (Note: my days of debating Muslims and skeptics online are over, if you wish to comment in opposition to me, understand I will not see it. The internet is a useless place to witness because to get someone to abandon everything they believe with a few comments will be fruitless 99.9999 percent of the time, so get out there and get preaching!)
